When did Sky launch in Ireland?

I remember watching Sky Channel on cable here in the late 80s.

And you would have been able to watch Sky News via a Satellite too. But when did they start to charge people in Ireland for their subscription service >

The Sky network of channels was announced in 1988 - they launched in February 1989.

To that point Sky Channel stood alone (and was also available on cable systems).
