Phone-calls being listened to?

    Good Evening All,

    Just a general query:

How would you know if someone is listening in on your phone-calls?

From early-2013 whenever I got phonecalls on the one number I have registered their would be a clicking noise/sound once number was dialing from my side; or once connected after someone phoned me and once I'd say Goodbye to the person on the call, their was another click before I'd disconnect on my side. That happened with all calls on my registered number.

I bought another sim and used it but never registered it; tested it in making phone-calls to varying people and this clicking noise/sound never happened. It would only happen on the number I regularly use.

What would have been the reasoning for that would anyone know?

Never really bothered me as I can't hide anything, nor lie to save my life so it made no odds to me if people were listening in on my calls. Just recent events have got me thinking back to this.

    Thanks,
    kerry4sam

Kerry4sam, I'd suggest that you could ask the mods to move the thread to the Information Security forum. You might get a better answer there, or else they'll know the most likely place to get you an answer to your question.

    Just a suggestion.

Simple question is - would your calls be of interest to anybody else including - law enforcement, competitors etc.?

By interest, I mean of sufficient interest for somebody to get a court warrant to intercept your calls or get the technology that would be required by a third party to intercept your calls.

The type of interception of calls used these days are unlikely to result in clicks on the line.

Clicks on the line sounds too mechanical for modern call interception.

I think you get that click on the line if you have a number that was previously with another provider. For instance if you are with vodafone and moved your number to meteor you hear that click all the time. Were you previously with another provider?

Irish law is different there is a lot of paper work involved court orders etc,
I don't think the figures of tapped calls in ireland reached a couple of hundred per year.
Unless your running a criminal empire they won't be listening to calls.
The man power or equipment is not there to do it huge scale..

So what are you up to that has you paranoid

Thanks so much for the info provided above. It all kicked off after this.

All private calls of serious nature have been done with a different sim by me & since nothing has come back to me, then I think I'll continue that way.

All of my daily "how is the form" calls can continue with the registered number.

    Much Appreciated for the advice,
    Thanks again,

Sounds like you have a dodgy phone or SIM card.

Hacking your phone isn't a trivial matter so unless your of interest to law enforcement you can gab away.

Plus if what you describe is somebody hacking your phone then it's not exactly a discreet operation.
