What happened to all the channels that were supposed to have launched by now? TG4 HD on UPC is a joke. They're only After the money of course instead of staying loyal to the irish public. Now dont get me wrong, i dont watch a lot of TG4 mainly because i bearly know about 10 words in irish but it should have launched on saorview first.

Perfectly valid point about TG4 HD launching on a pay service.

Wonder what are 'all the channels that were supposed to have launched'? Oireachtas TV & the Irish movie channel?

It's just a replacement of Analogue so Comreg could flog 790MHz to 862MHz to raise some cash for Government.

It works, about 30% area has better signal, coverage of TG4 about 5% better and TV3 coverage nearly 30% more (Less than 80% coverage to about 98% coverage).

The Movie Channel was fantasy. No money for it. Oireachtas TV should be on it. Eventually TG4 will be HD on it. None of that is fault of Saorview.

Next year it will likely have a "UTV".

It's only the Free To Air Irish Channels in a small country. What on earth do you expect?

Those are all Sky subscription channels. If you were sold a Saorview box on the basis of receiving these (I'd doubt you were), then bring it back.

They are foreign channels as far as Ireland is concerned. If the Salesman told you you would get them you were miss sold the box and can claim compensation. Contact your lawyer now.

"TG4 HD" on UPC doesn't actually show programmes in HD does it ?
Except for an occasional sporting event.

Hang on, hang the fcuk on here for just a minute - You have some nerve OP, coming on here and talking sh1te about saorview as if it was anyone else's fault but your own. First, you killed the radio star, then you had the monopoly on any visually recorded media the whole world over, whether it was a cassette tape, a dvd or a blu-ray, people still call it a "video", and now you have the cheek to come on here and whinge that saorview is crap? The bang of "let them eat cake" off you! Well let me tell you something mister, I am PURPOSELY going to go and watch NOTHING ELSE only saorview, AND I'm going to up my radio listening to AT LEAST AN HOUR A DAY, just to teach YOU a lesson! And there's more than just me boyo, oh yes, you can kill me, but there'll be a thousand to take my place. And when soarview viewership increases to the level that they CAN have a movie channel, then you'll be sorry!

Before I could get RTE 1, 2 and TG4 via an aerial. Now I get more. In what way is it a flop exactly?

They proposed a fully commercial multiplex and nobody seemed to be able to make a commercial case for it.

Remember Ireland has very high levels of cable and satellite tv penetration because of the historical demand for UK channels.

The UK had a huge % of non cable / non satellite households in comparison being freeview economically viable.

Remember even in the UK the initial subscription model for DTT failed too and the UK is a much much bigger market.

I have Saorview. I also have Freesat. Can't see where the problem is.

It's technically possible. As are both English and Irish subtitles. But only if TG4 have the money and decide to do it.
