    Hi folks,

I'm editing a few ads for broadcast and the producers want to use a popular song from 4 years ago. I've only ever used Royalty Free stuff before so I'm not sure how to go about buying a licence/getting permission to use it?

The song was released by a company under Sony Music. I got in touch with Sony Music but they put me onto IMRO/MCPSI. I sent both IMRO and MCPSI emails yesterday afternoon but haven't heard anything back from either of them. Tried ringing today to follow up, but no one is answering.

Not sure what to do next. Just keep ringing and hope they answer? Or is it someone else I should be ringing in the first place?

Never mind. Could a mod lock this thread?

Eventually managed to get in touch with them and got the info I need.

Did they want to charge you much?

They couldn't help me; I'll have to get in touch with the people who own the music rights directly. He did say that it would cost a lot and take a lot of time though. It's the producer's decision now:)

I did find some place that only charged $150 for music but it was little known music that wouldn't be too much better than what you'd find at http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/

I even contacted a more or less unknown musician and offered him €200 to use his music but was completely ignored after my offer.
