Have you got Radiators connected to the system. If you have then your cylinder is becoming the heating source when the Stove goes out.

I'd say what's happening is as Sky6 says as when the cylinder becomes hotter than the stove you are getting what's known as back siphonage. This means that your cylinder is heating your stove by gravity and will do so until it has cooled itself.

What temperature is the thermostat beside the cylinder set at?

Is there a way of stopping this so I can hold the heat in my cylinder so I'd have hot water the next morning

It will depend on how your Stove is Plumbed. If your Cyl is heated before the heat goes on to the Rads then yes you can fit a 3 port motorized valve at the Cylinder. This can then be controlled by a Cyl stat to close the Cyl and allow the heat to reach the Rads. or the other way around whichever you choose.
Have you 2 or 4 pipes coming off the Stove. ?

    I have 2pipes.
Am not sur if the cyl heats before the rads i don't think it does because the rads get hot fairly quick.

Pics would how help aright. Particularly pics of connections to the Cyl Coil.
Can you trace the pipework to see how or where the heating is connected and also where the Expansion pipe is in the system. These are important answers as being a Stove it's most important that the solution is done right. as anything else could be extremely dangerous.

You can't put any moterized valves/pumps/ nr valves on the primary circuit between the stove and the cylinder unless you want to create a bomb.

    Is your cylinder we'll insulated?
Have you any pumps cycling water through the cylinder coil(s) ?
Is expansion tank overflowing out through your soffit/ water coming out through any pipes outside?

Wel folks. What the plumbers has done now is he has moved the stat off the top pipe coming out from the stove, which was the hottest pipe, to the lowest pipe which is colder and set da stat at 40. It now takes a hr 4 my rads downstairs to get hot ( because waiting on pump to kick in) rads upstairs get warm fairly quick, because of the way it was plumbed ( gravity system he said he installed I think). And it didn't make any difference to the hot water it's now worse if anythin. For example I lit the stove this mornin at half 7 I had shower at half 11 am the water was warm but not piping hot. I headed away for few hrs at half 3 I put on big fire coal logs etc. I was home at 7 fire was nearly out but I got it going again puttin on more coal and logs. Herself went 4 a shower at 8 and it was just warm not hot. I then had shower at 10 and it was still the same. And I never have hot water the next mornin. My pump seems 2 be goin all the time. Wats happening lads.. It's doin me head in????

Has you hot water cylinder ever got v.hot with the stove?

It sounds like your stove is using a fully pumped circuit, possibly gravity feed to upstairs rads with the ground floor and cyl. Coil pumped.

Have you tried turning the stat up to 55*c?
