UPS - Terrible rural service.

Have used 5 or more courier services over the years,Some very efficient and some with bad enough service.
UPS always seem to give me the most problems.
''The address is in a remote area and deliveries are not made daily.'' is the message i often get on the expected delivery date.
This despite the fact that all other couriers are generally able to deliver on the day stated, And in reality the address is semi urban of a large town.
Sick of seeing a parcel stuck in Shannon for days on end.
Status today is about 'adverse weather conditions' which is fair enough given yesterdays situation, However i am not happy as the roads are now passable just with some delays.

Anyone else have bad experiences with UPS?

Yeah I got that after Christmas when I ordered a phone from Amazon.de. For two days running they assured me that my package would be delivered 'by close of business today'. On day three the milkman delivered it to me.

I do live in a rural area but it is not like I'm in a cave up the side of a mountain or anything.

Still they are slightly better than DHL. In spite of numerous phonecalls from me, the local delivery guy just dumps my packages into random shops 10+ miles away without telling me and relies on the honesty of random shop staff to drop them into me on their way home.

Thats Crazy, Have had decent enough experience with DHL in the past, About time these couriers get there act together though.

I think a lot depends on the local drivers. I've read a lot of complaints online about GLS and Fastway but I've always found them excellent.

    Same (bad) experiences here.

    Unfortunately, receiver can't choose courier.

It'd be worth mentioning the poor service to whoever you're buying from.

If they get enough complaints they may switch courier service if they think it'll impact on their business.

It's been mentioned many, many times.

Also, numbers of complaints sent to UPS regarding leaving parcels in random places in nearby town (pub, petrol station, local shop etc.) - not even a single answer from them.

They need to make first attempt first before you can arrange collection or redirection.

I live in a rural area and UPS is actually my favorite courier... now i've had problems with all of the rest, especially parcelforce but UPS normally delivers to me early in the morning (assuming they want to get the rural area out of the way first)

My package is now in shannon i was wondering if i could collect the package and they said there obliged to try deliver it first for the sender, if i ring the sender and get them to change it to collection would that work?

It would if they would oblige, they often won't due to effort

Amazon shipped a recent purchase with these guys, I'm curious to see how they do as it's been a very long while since I've had anything delivered by them. Should be here Monday so I'll make sure to be available.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I found it on google when checking to see if anyone else had to put up with this sh*t from UPS. They've had my package since Friday. It's now Monday and the "This delivery address is in a remote area where deliveries are not made daily." message has popped up this AM. I live in Sligo town, not the middle of nowhere over here, and it's the beginning of a new work week. They are not sending a truck this way today?

UPS are by far the worst delivery company I have ever dealt with because of this 'rural' crap among other things (refusing to deliver a package of mine to Parcel Motel in 2013). I will be forwarding a complaint to Amazon even though I know it won't do much.

More than likely the only "not remote area" for them is Dublin. :p

That's the service they offer. Its made very clear to the person paying for the service.

Did amazon GUARANTEE delivery on Friday? - I doubt it. My guess is it went on their "expedited" service.

Also, they must deliver to the address stated - you cannot change that address. You need to get the sender to do the address change. This is a UPS seciurity feature and one of their selling points.

Different delivery companies have different strengths - UPS's other strength is that they never use a third party to deliver. The parcel / document is always in their hands and when I used them this was exceptionally important due to the security nature of the products I was receiving.

We live on the border between two counties...our postal address is in one county but we are actually in the other county..courier won't cross into the other county (limerick -cork). Leaves the packages with a garage about a mile away!😂😂 never knew about the border security in cork!!

Parcel Motel . No reason to use anything else if there is one near by.

That's because couriers have set routes and most are self employed franchisees and can't go into someone else's territory.

Option would be for it to be readdressed and delivered to you 2 days later or have the courier use his head and have it dropped off somewhere convienent. Fair play to the courier for doing that for you many wouldn't.

And that's why the whole postal address thing should be scrapped immediately.

Address IS the place where you live. If An Post (or anyone else) have delivery/routing problem it's their problem! And they're pretty well paid for dealing with that - it's their job after all.

sorry to bump up older post - I have the "This delivery address is in a remote area where deliveries are not made daily" message on my parcel from UPS at the moment. Been sitting in Dublin since 6pm Friday, its now Monday. Sender gave delivery address of Tuesday. - UPS has Tuesday as their Scheduled date as Tuesday (we shall see) tracking on site it says it isnt even out for delivery (as of 2.50pm Monday) - Tried to get them to change delivery address to my Parcel Motel Dublin Address (which if I have my details correct is literally 2 units up from UPS on the same trading estate - but could not be done.
If one of their selling tools to senders is that of security.. why do they leave parcel with shop/petrol station and not take it back to the local UPS Depot? (if there is one)
