Lidl's Lightweight Rain Jacket - Bargain or not

For €6.99 I'd say it's a bargain - but don't expect it to keep you bone dry standing out in the rain all day.
I have one that I keep in the car - just in case I get caught in a shower.

Says it's "Water and stain-repellent" but not waterproof. Is this the same thing?

It will keep the rain off you, but probably won't keep you dry if you get soaked by a large wave

Just jumping in here too - anyone any idea how waterproof would the hiking trousers be?

Don't intend swimming in it. More interested if it'll keep me dry if it's p*ssing rain on my 2 mile cycle to work.

    Former outdoor gear salesperson here.

Waterproof and water repellent are two very different things. Depends what you want to use this for. It's definitely not fully waterproof but should keep you dry in light showers for a short space of time. If you want it for hiking etc I would advise against it.

If you link me to the jacket I could tell you more.

    Sorry, just saw the link!

Not waterproof, but should keep the rain off for a short period. A lot of people use this type if gear when running

I wouldn't say it's too breathable but should be ok for 2 miles

They ARE NOT waterproof.I found out the hard way just an hour ago.
Also you cannot use any fabric conditioner when washing any of these items of hiking clothing,as the fabric conditioner eats into the material and its structure.
Read the packaging and washing instructions.
The hiking boots are very comfy though.Keeps the feet nice and warm but again not fully waterproof Not too bad though for 22 euro.

    from this site
"BIONIC FINISH ECO is a water-repellent, breathable finish that helps fabrics hold their colours and their new look longer. It is also FC, PFOA and PFOS free."

So not likely all that waterproof, probably just slightly better than a light nylon windcheater.

Also, for cycling they do occasionally have proper lightweight waterproof and most importantly Hi-Vis yellow cycling jackets.

Anyone who choses a black raincoat for cycling is asking for trouble.

I have a hi-viz that goes over it thanks, Was just wondering if ity was waterproof or not and I think that has been answered so any mods can lock this thread now if they want.

I have a bionic finish ski jacket and its still really good after several years and being machine washed several times but it does leak through the shoulder seams eventually. Other breathable jackets I've had apart from a nike one thats still holding up the breathable lining has worn/peeled away or when I've eventually resorted to washing them they've been useless afterward.

Its as much to do with the construction as the material. It will almost certainly leak through that zip. If the seams are taped it my be reasonable or commuting. Rain room tests have shown that even the most expensive materials with ludicrously high column of water ratings still leak through seams and zips and that 1000mm column was sufficient for the most extreme british weather.

Have a previous issued trekking jacket.

Very functional & well made however I'd doesn't "breath".

You get sweaty quickly, the sleeves wet from un-evaporated sweat.

Pretty sure that has a waterproof membrane on the inside of the shell.
