Buying a second hand Sky+HD Box

    Hi All

I am trying to get myself a Sky+HD Box. I have one of the old sky+ boxes, the square white one, not sure the make or model.

I have sourced a new box, and intend to buy it, but will my Sky card work fine with it?

Im an IT Engineer, so screwing in a few coax cables is no major issue

Is there anything that i need to know

The reason im doing this is that SKy are being dicks about giving me a new box. I had to pay for the current white box when my old one went crazy, and they want the bones of 500 euro for a new box + installation + etc...

Im sorry, but im paying for a service, and i will sooner cancel the service than pay all of that, especially when a new customer gets it all almost free

I would be glad of any info about it violating terms and conditions, but i cant see how it will TBH, but still

    Thanks all for your time

No problem at all, you just ring up sky and tell them you want to pair your card to a new box, doesnt matter where you got it

Ok, im seeing lots of issues with people buying second hand boxes but sky not allowing you to pair it as there are outstanding bills on the old contract. I suppose its a try-and-see. Its only 50 euro, so thats not too bad really

Will a SKY + HD box work in Northern Europe if one has an ordinary dish/decoder?

Try Adverts.ie. There's a business (shop retailer) who sells them and you should be okay with anything you get from there.

Just had a quick look at adverts and there are lots of boxes for sale

This is from the shop I mentioned above and price includes delivery. No connection btw. :)

Seems strange they didn't offer a deal. Are still in contract with them then? We threatened to cancel unless we got a better deal - they replaced our faulty box with a recon DRX780 for a €10 engineer fee and then got €7 off the bill per month with €50 credit.

the account is tied to the viewing card not the box imo

I've also read about Sky refusing to pair a card to a 2nd hand box. The reason given was that the box was used on an unpaid account.

The only reason sky won't pair a viewing card to a box is if the previous account it was used on is still in credit to Sky, ie they haven't paid there bill.

They also won't pair a Thomson Sky+HD box as these are no loner supported.
