I agree that €5 million is not a huge sum of money to carry out repairs.

But I thought it would have been more to get repairs on the lines that were closed because of yesterday's storm like Ennis and Athenry and the local lines in Cork.

Can I ask what type of damage was done yet again to Pearse Station in Dublin. Other than the indo, there is very little coverage of it in the media.

What other railway stations got involved in yesterday's storm damage apart from Cork and Waterford?

The only problems yesterday were lots tree's down, speed reduced because of wind and no electricity along routes. Tralee and WRC were most affected by power with most of the LC not operational. They had staff at a number of crossings on Waterford route this morning because of no power.

Ennis-Limerick is closed since the beginning of this month, any chance they might consider a long term solution for that?

Well to be fair - they raised the railway line by 60cm (almost 2 feet!) since the last flood.

The water is higher above the rails than before.

The flooding on the Ennis-Limerick is caused from a lack of drainage on Ballycar Lough. The problem lies on lands which are not railway owned so it isn't Irish Rail's responsbility. The below link gives an insight into why the flooding occurs, who it affects, who is responsible for causing and remedying it and how it can be alleviated.

It floods most years. Irish Rails aid it was raised in 2003.

In fairness, the land has always been known to flood - it is surrounded by hills. this from about 1840. http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,541434,669630,6,7

Which was aggravated by the actions of the former Board of Works to the extent that flooding is now a regular long term issue at the site affecting the line and local farmlands. It's the OPW problem to address and nobody else's.
