......despite the fact my car is a year older and worth less and I've added an extra year to my NCB!

What is going in with premium renewals? With rent heading towards 2008 levels, we are again heading towards a situation where everybody is squeezing as much euros out of us. A country of this size can't sustain such extraordinary price rises again!!

    Shop around.
    Find the best quote.
Ring your insurer back with the lowest quote.
See what they say, if they don't budge go with the best overall package, be it price, service etc.

Most people don't seem to realise that ringing around insurance companies for 2 hours can save a couple of hundred quid at times, not bad for 2 hours work.

Mine went up 50%, rang my insurer, and haggled down to last years price so no increase.

My work PL insurance went up over 200% despite no claims. That's 000,s extra. It seems to be trendy at the moment. I guess they do, because they can. Same with the work van insurances(a lot of them) - had to battle like hell to get decent renewal terms and still got a big raise on last year.

Well I just got my Insurance renewal. Came in around €60 cheaper than last years premium (which was already pretty cheap) :)

    Delighted.

And I have to say, they are absolutely brilliant to deal with (FBD)

    Very impressed.

Car insurance always goes up, the only way to keep it down is to jump companies.
I've jumped ship many times and always up paying less than 500 for a year.

Pick up the phone, ring every company.

Get a quote online from each company/broker.

Contact every broker you can find.

Take best quote to your current insurer. If they won't match it, go with that best quote.

Gonna chat to my Broker later to see what the story is.

Can people name the companies they are with?

    Mine went down! (with FBD)

It's a lottery...I got quoted 1200 last year from a broker and 1600 this year with year no claims. Liberty wanted over two grand last year and have no quoted me 900 for this year with third party open drive on all cars! Madness, it's like they have the big wheel on winning streak handing out the quotes.

I contacted Aaran Insurances who got Axa to quote me at €555. Far better than the €780 Liberty quoted. Shopping around is certainly worth the hassle. Thanks for the suggestion.

Don't rule out your current company for a quote, the renewal number is them simply chancing their arm. If they send out 1,000 renewals with 50% increases and they lose 25% of the customers, they are still up. Ring them and ask for a lower quote - if necessary quote fictitious quotes from other companies.

A lot of people assume that their renewal is higher than last year because more people were killed on the roads last year or there's more whiplash claims, they just assume that all of the companies have increased their premiums and they pay up without shopping around, that's why they send out crazy renewal quotes.
