Hi guys i got a chainsaw and a few chains from my friend who is moving to australia!! The problem is it has no bar!!

I was looking at a video of how to measure a chainsaw chain! They didnt tell you how to calculate the size of the chain instead they said use the information to buy a new chain off their website, however i need a bar not a chain!

I was wondering if there is a way of calculating the size of bar i need from the chain information below?

    Its a 'stihl' chain
    1) Distance between 3 rivet centres = 19mm (I think you divide this number in half)
    2) Total number of driver links = 52
    3) Thickness of driver link = 1.36mm

    Thanks in advance!!

That should be All you need.Your pitch 3/8 and your gauge is most likely .050. Ring your local farm shop or small engine guy and they should have one to fit your drive links.
May be better to find the saw manual online if you can to see reccomended bar lengths and pick one that suits your needs and then get chain for that rather than the other way around.

Thanks so all i need do is give this information to the dealer or shop or whatever and they will know?

I was looking at the chain again and there is a 04 on a few of the bits that join the chain together!

Il go somewhere to get it when this storm blows over! could do with it now however as theres trees down everywhere!!

Just bring the saw and chain with you to be sure you get the right bar.
