So I've gotten €800 for a new roadbike but it needs to be new and a complete bike.

I'd love to give the business to my LBS but I'm super poor so they're going to get back to me with their best options.

In the meantime can anyone reccomend something Alu w. Tiagra or up from the various places around the Internet and Dublin?

Looking at some of the Corratecs on CRC but I don't know the brand and if I can (I probably can't) I'd like to avoid something Defy bland.

    Edit: I'm a 58cm normally

    Felt F85 tiagra from Wiggle @ £558

    Cinelli Experience Veloce 2013 @ £608

Plenty of other offers on the go from Wiggle and CRC at present.

I'm tempted by the Tifosi CK3 on Wiggle w. Veloce>

That's a very nice bike. Seems almost too good to be true given that the Sora version is basically the same price. Veloce would be the Campagnolo equivalent of 105.

I see that bikeradar only gave it 3 stars...but I'm not sure if that's down to the frame or the non-Campag components (apparently the calipers are dogsh...oot).

Waiting to hear back from another Boardsie who has a Tifosi framed winter bike with opinions.

That review was when the bike was £1000. I'd say it might be a different story at nearly €400 cheaper ;)

58cm would be XL.......Wiggle out of that size at present, so's Ribble, the CAAD is in stock in XL, its a 2012 model, but a nice bike all the same.

Post up what you finally choose....decisions, decisions:D

According to the Wiggle sizing guide I'd be an L.

    189cm...

I just paid 1k on top of the range carbon bike equipped with ultegra all round mostly and nice wheels. I reckon you are mad to spend that money on a new bike.

800 new does not get you much new even in the sales.

Secondhand surely? Can be very pricey if chainrings etc start to wear out.

I have a Tifosi CK7 built up as a winter trainer with 105 and Open Pros. The frame is superbly finished and has stood up to 2 winters without a blemish. I love the classic paint job. There's not much flex and with Conti 4 season 25's and decent wheels it's very smooth for an alloy frame.

The CK3 has a more aggressive geometry, but the build quality of the frame is most likely every bit as good. Pity it doesn't take mudguards though.

The fact that you have aksiums to replace the stock wheels should improve the bike and the campy groupo is nice. I'd buy another Tifosi frame in a heartbeat.

If you could find another €200 under the mattress, I think you get a lot more for your money, Rose Pro Sl 2000

Yes, oh I forgot the price of chain rings is astronomical these days!

Yeah it is lovely, enjoy your tiagra!

If I had 800, I'd either get a nice fixie or wait until another few hundred magically appeared and then get a nice road bike.

Go to CycleSuperstore in Tallaght. They have a Cannondale Caad8 on the shop floor, it's a beautiful bike and within your budget. It would be my choice if I had€800 to spend.

Some great deals on frame sets around or even a 2nd hand frame. Add a new veloce groupset and khamsim wheelset and your 800 will spread well.

Just pinged that the CK3 has a Miche Chainset...hmmm

    Are you sure?

    From the Wiggle website;

    • Chainset: Campagnolo Veloce, compact 50/34 (crank length varies according to frame size)
    • Bottom Bracket: BSA
    • Rear Derailleur: Campagnolo Veloce
    • Front Derailleur: Campagnolo Veloce
    • Brake Calipers: Campagnolo Veloce
    • Chain: Campagnolo
    • Cassette: Campagnolo 12-25

White....it was the only colour they had in large.

I'm not helping saying I like the blue one much more, am I? :P

Anyways, I'm pretty sure you'll be super happy with your new bike. Accidently I got the green light for a new bike yesterday - Genesis here I come!

Now: Equilibrium or Croix de Fer? Sweet, sweet doubts ;-)

I'm hoping that when the budget is less punishing I'll get a Vapour disc. Love the looks of Genesis bikes.

What do people think of this bike, thinking of going for it and upgrading from my Carrera TDF.

Looking for a lighter bike, anyone have any idea how much this weighs, had a quick serch but couldn't find it. And with Tiagra it looks to be a great price/

People rave about Cannondales that's all I can tell you...that and Tiagra is grand.

    Beginning to approach respectability:

    20140220_202929.jpg

Have to square away that Mavic Campognolo freehub so I can put my Aksiums on, put my Carbon stem on it and Radial is giving me some Cartridge brake shoes with a Carbon Seatpost and an actual Campy chainset I'll be happy out.

Nice looking bike. What about a black saddle ? A Selle Rolls would be just the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,479 ✭✭✭rollingscone

In time, might as well dirty up the X1 now, it's a surprisingly good saddle for a bike in this price range.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,301 ✭✭✭dave_o_brien

I have a couple of spare black saddle if you want to collect sometime. One is vaguely similar to my preferred specialised toupe, which I think is great. They do a saddle called the riva for about thirty quid, which is also great. The other is off a giant tcr, it's black and white, and a bit like an over padded Arione.

Went for a test spin to the Phoenix Park today...

It was cold and breezey when I left, raining by the time I got to Kilmainham, and by 2/3rds of the way around a loop of the park I was being blown sideways and hailstoned (Boards cap and buff paid for themselves!) and my front derailleur had stopped working.

Also, nice as it is, I'm never buying a white bike again, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard to get clean.

FD seems to be fine so I'm hoping it's just cable tension that needs to be adjusted. Whoever built the bike at wiggle had it strung like a violin.

Nearly back on the road after some hiccups, just need to rescue my pedals from the broken crankset and ask nicely at the LBS if they'll check the ridiculously touchy self extracting crank with a Torque Wrench.
