I'm looking at getting back on the bike in the coming weeks.

I'm a fair weather cyclist. Dont hold it against me please! :o

I reckon the weather will come good again to the point where I'm happy to venture out in the coming weeks and I'd like to kick off my back to cycling with a Sportive if possible.

I've done the likes of 60k ones fine so anything between 40k and 80k to be honest I'd happily give a go. Sure theres stops for a reason. :D

Anyway I'm looking for the best site/resoursce for them.

Surely theres a calander of the year ahead that I'm not aware of??

    thanks in advance

Sadly there isn't a great calendar or resource. The next one up is this sunday, the Ned Flanagan one: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057132375

The main problem I've seen is the huge difference in levels of info about these events - some of them have route maps, info, all this - with the Ned Flanagan for example, people are going back and forth wondering what the route even is. A lot of them are just a facebook page going "Going from <GAA Club> on this date, ring this number for more details".

For there to be a good calendar or informational site pulling together these events, the info has to be out there in the first place :-)

Is the Ned Flanagan not a proper race as opposed to a sportive?

EDIT: Just see there's also a leisure spin! Apologies.

    Probably the best resource is

    http://irishsportives.ie/

It depends on organisers providing the info but there is a reasonable number of events up already including the Audax events which is a nice touch.

Cycling Ireland have an events calendar on their site but info about the events is scarce.

I've some casual cyclist friends who'd like to do some Sportives, do they need to join CI before they could take part?

You can usually take out a day licence, although getting the introductory CI membership is pretty good value for someone intending to do a few of them in a year

It would be awesome if there was a place in this forum so it could be a 'great resource' (and it would be), something similar to what the running and tri forums have, I've been banging this drum for close on 4 years now though, ah well.

    There's a 15k, 50k 100k & 160k

Are most Sportives not open to the general public and so don't require CI licence/membership?

Cycling Weekly have a sportive guide this week. I think they include Irish events in the guide.
