LG G Pad V500 from Asda, £179

Comments

Seems a good deal for an 8inch tablet, use the asda promotional code "taboffer" to bring it down to £179.
€3.50 then to deliver to Parcel Motel

Not as good a deal as the Samsung but still not bad!

Yes but I would regard this tablet as superior enough to the Samsung to justify the price difference.

The Samsung at €155 is about all I would pay for a dual core 1280x800 tablet nowadays. It was overpriced to begin with but at €155 is good value. They reduced them because the quad core Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 is being unveiled this month.

This is quite a bit better, and quite a bit more expensive. Value wise it's about the same. You get what you pay for.

I think that's slightly unfair, "touchpad" has a nice ring to it aswell as being short and simple, but not to under articulated as to be called a g pad...

I have one of these for the last couple of months. It is without a doubt the best tablet I have ever owned. Incredibly slim but rock solid with an aluminium back, perfectly placed speakers that avoid your fingers in any orientation (someone thought that through) and are good quality. Exact same spec as the HTC One. Quad core Snapdragon 600, 2gb ram but also has the microsd slot.

The LG configurations on of the OS are really something. I thought I'd want to go stock android but not after using it. The one big thing for me is the Q-Pair feature. If you get a call or text it appears on your G-Pad and you can respond via just the tablet. Brilliant when you are browsing on the bus, get a text or call and without having to dig out your phone you know who its from and get can respond, or decide not to. Also really cool for doing 2-step verifications on your accounts.

I have it running via a €10 Slimport adapter acting as as full media center at 1080p. The current XBMC build is fine for 720p but haven't found a way to run 1080p without it running both tablet & external display at the same time so it causes some lag at 1080p. The LG video player runs a 1440p video of pCars with no stuttering to the 2560x1440 external display. Not sure what else you could want from a tablet.

I've had the iPad 1st gen, Nook HD7, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Blackberry Playbook and the G-Pad destroys them. Screen quality, build, functionality. My battery is lasting well into 15 hours with Lux-lite installed. The Xposed framework works so you can customize once rooted and rooting can be done for free with one click using Kingo. I paid £249 and would do it again. At £179 its a steal. May just get another for the hell of it :)

This will give a good comparison to the Nexus 7 2013. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAH5rn8Db10

I know this has probably been asked a million and one times but as a telephone number (legitimate UK required by asda) did you just use the parcel motel one? Thanks
    Edit: It's all gravy baby

This tablet is a FAR better tablet than the samsung one and easily justifies the price difference in the long run.

Samsung is not a good tablet

I was reading they put their own software on top of android which slows it down, they wanted to dump android

Lads! I wonder what's the story with the screen issue? Some users experiencing the led lights leaking through or yellowish tinge on lcd.

Ordered myself one at £179 yesterday too. With £2.95 delivery to Parcel Motel depot in Newtownabbey, then €3.50 Parcel Motel charge to get it to Dublin, overall cost to me was c. €221.
Presuming no probs with Parcel Motel, this is a pretty SWEET deal !!! Especially as Harvey Norman currently quoting a "reduced" price of €319.

At same time also ordered a SanDisk 64gb microSD card from Amazon at £43.09 for the G-Pad. Price drop to £28.87 today so cancelled orig order and reordered at lower price.

i had a nightmare trying to upgrade my G pad to Android at the weekend...
Even ended up "bricking" the device and havig to invoke a lttle known LG app to restore the system to working...

The CWM release killed the device and CMB release got me stuck in a boot loop...

Finally found a ROM that worked without any issues:

Hopefully this will save somebody some time!

I went for the Toshiba 32GB micro SD SDHC UHS-I class 10 memory card - £13. That will do nicely :)

What one specifically? Asda don't see to like em', regardless of what combos I hammer in.
EDIT: I Used my work number (+44 UK Belfast) and added my mobile number in comments section.

So this or the Nexus 7? Any suggestions. Been looking online and it seems more are looking towards Nexus 7 but I really like the look of this!

Ordered one of these at 20.45 on Thursday and it arrived at 21:00 Saturday. Very impressive speed from Yodel/ ParcelMotel.
The tablet itself is really nice, it's a little difficult to hold in one hand, but battery life seems good so far and it's very nippy. The IR function is great if the TV remote is too far away. :D
