Passenger door not locking 06 Focus

    Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help ye can give me.

My 06 Focus has developed an unusual problem the passenger side door will not lock first time either with fob or using key in lock.

    here's the exact symptoms

    1. lock with fob - passenger door does not lock
open shut passenger door and again use fob it locks

    2. lock using key - results as above

    3. sit in car and lock using the button by the handle all doors lock every time

So having narrowed down the symptoms im sure it has some thing to do with the onboard computer thinking the passenger door is open and so it does not lock it, when that door is open/closed the computer marks it as closed. At some point after this the computer forgets the door is closed and thus the next time i go to lock it the door wont lock.

The question for me is does the door maintain a constant signal saying 'i'm closed' or does it send a once off 'closed signal' which the onboard computer remembers.

I have a background in electronics (mainly communications gear) so i'm quite happy to replace almost anything in the car. I Know i should be looking further into this myself but with work and college going on i just don't have the time so If any boardsie out there can help id appreciate it.

More than likely a problem with the door lock mechanismm itself, replace with a new one or one from a breakers yard and should be grand

    Thanks for the reply Andy

Would you not think that as the passenger door locks every time when the drivers door inside button is pressed suggests the mechanism is fine.

and that its the signal getting to the door is the problem

have you seen something similar before?

Sorry for delay getting back, yes I had a similar problem with a mondeo, and a lock seemed to sort it. The fact it doesn't lock with key either makes me think it's a mechanical fault rather than electrical. I would certainly check the wires where the go into the door in the flexible rubber but I would say a lock will sort the problem. When you open and close the door you are probably unsticking the part in the lock that's stuck and the vibration from opening and closing. It's a theory anyway and somewhere to start, it's hard to diagnose a fault without looking at the car. But just looking again at you're reply, the inside locking and outside locking and remote are all controlled by different rods and parts but as I said just a theory, if it was me doing the car with the faults you describe it where I would start.
