Forum rules

i am confused about forum rules. I understand that we should not advertise products or services and that's fair enough. But today somebody asked about a specific product and if anybody had used this. They got a serious warning (in big bold letters) from the mod threatening up to banning. And all he did was ask forum users to PM him if they had used this product. he didn't even ask for reviews to be posted on the thread, just a PM.

I also asked for the same thing about another product and did not receive a warning. So what's the situation if you ask forum users to PM you with their personal experiences of a product. Surely that cannot be considered advertising?

So how can we get information on the use of different building products if we cannot ask forum users for their experiences?

I just would like this to be cleared up and maybe if there is a problem forum users might want to consider if some changes to the mod rules are required?

    Thanks

Agreed! However thread wasn't deleted so people are free to PM still in fairness (yet to get a pm). Was hoping for a PM from Bryan about them as he recommended them on boards before he was a moderator in one of the slate threads.
