Bought a BMW 320d last April from Joe Duffy--08 with 50000 kms--Very impressed with it--seriously quick and does 50mpg while being driven fairly hard. The handling is excellent also--much more sure-footed than the Mazda 6 I had before. Miss the Mazda's huge space tho'

    Have a 07 520D myself and love the BMW's.
However in this case that 08 has the N47 timing chain issue. Avoid.
I'd lean towards the A4 instead but I'm not sure on their reliability either.

I'm driving a 2008 B8 A4 2.0TDI and though it feels smooth & sure footed it's a bit too stiff on country roads, but tax is pretty low at €280 per year. As for reliability, I've owned the car for about 4 months and in that time I needed a new wheel bearing, DMF & clutch and started getting ESP faults. other than that, it's been happy motoring returning an average of 50mpg.

I have the same car but am at the €390 rate! Are you driving a 143 PS model?

BMW feels great on the road but be careful in the wet.

Took an a4 and a6 for test drive and IMO the BMW is far better.

Go for the se if you can, leather is great.

Wouldnt sleep easy at night with a 20d N47 under the bonnet

It's a bloody nuisance..I'm looking at upgrading and I've probably have to switch to an Audi A6 more than likely rather than take the risk on the N47 engine.
I'd go for a 525D or higher but 08 ones are rarer than hen's teeth.

No better excuse to justify a 6 pot 30d :)

Do all the *20d's have the N47 engine. Issue was there from 07 - 09 afaik.

Forget about the *20d designation. It's anything fitted with the 2.0 litre diesel engine from that time.

I have the same. What is the first registration date. I heard there was a co2 emmisions changes during the year but i can't find evidence of this. It means somes a4 b8's for 2008 will have different CO2 tax bands.

The b8 (launched in March) and then changed again in June '08 with the DPF, reducing emissions and tax. I have the latter in an S Line and love it.

It was 07/12/08 and emissions was 139g/km co2 I think.
