Shacking up

Hi Im looking for advice. Im living alone with two children. I split up with their father while pregnant with the second.
He since lost his job and is on unemployment benefit.
Recently we started dating again and we have got to the stage where we are thinking of moving in together.
I earn 2640 euro a month after tax. I have never applied for lone parent because I have just realised I might qualify for it in the last few days and with the kids dad now thinking of moving in Im waiting to see how things pan out before I do.
Anyway back to my question what happens to his 188 a week if he moves in. He pays 30 maintenance a week to his first child from another relationship and I dont think I could afford to feed him (it sounds terrible but Im struggling). Rent is 1200 a month and may be rising when the lease is up.

Would anybody have any ideas on what would happen if he moved in?
Pretending he doesnt live here or dodging the system in anyway wouldnt be an option. I would be a nervous wreck living like that plus I try my best to be honest.

Nothing happens to his €188 if he uses the same address he was using when he made the claim.

However if he goes down to the social welfare and tells them he is co-habiting then they will need your proof of income, pps etc and they may deduct accordingly.

Do you know if he is on JSB or JSA?

I would be afraid to do that . He said he has to sign that nothing has changed each time he signs on.

I think he would become dependant on you. Same as a married couple.

You are entitled to single parents tax credit or whatever it's called this year. If you co habit you loose this AFAIK.

From that would I be right saying they take my money and his 188 and split it in half. Then if it goes over certain amount he gets cut off?

No... his means will be calculated on your gross earnings less prsi/union/pension. I just did a quick calculation on your nett earnings and he would get approx 43E pw on jobseekers. Looking at your earnings you wouldnt qualify for one parent family.
Of course if he is on benefit rather than allowance then he will keep his €188 pw until his benefit exhausts.

Thats depressing reading but thanks for taking the time. Guess we will have to wait until he can get a job. Fingers crossed for this property bubble happening so rents drop and building work picks up.

Would that not just be the money split in half as above and being over the max threshold?

It appears that you are just slightly over for FIS http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/3884_How-do-I-qualify.aspx
