2nd Sky box?

I'm getting a new Sky+HD box on Thursday upgrading from an old white Pace box. From a few internet searches I gather I can use the old box as a FTA receiver in another room?

The problem I have is my dish seems to be already at capacity. There are 4 cables running from the dish, 2 saorview boxes and the old Sky+ box and looks like no more room for any more cables.

    So is it still possible?

I'm hoping to get the Sky engineer to do for me, if I give him/her a small cash incentive. :D

Octo lnb, diy job if you're any way handy. Pop off the cables that are on the original, take off the quad lnb, put on the octo, screw back on the original cables and you've room for 4 more sky boxes or 2 sky+ boxes

Saorview boxes don't use Satellite so they can't be using any feeds from the dish. Saorview is the digital terrestrial TV service

My thinking is it could be a Saorview combi box.

Yes sorry, they're saorview combi boxes.
I'm not really that handy, but if the sky engineer won't do it, I might wig it myself...

How old is the Sky dish?

If the dish is older than Jun 2009 you may require a legacy adapter for the new LNB

You won't be getting an engineer as Sky don't use them, they use installers.

He/she will need to change the LNB to an octo (8 output).

When the saorview boxes were being installed the old dish was replaced with a new one. That would have been a few weeks before the switch over.

I just gave the sky fella €40 cash and he put up an octo LNB, no prob, will have 8 line capacity then

You could get a unicable LNB, this would allow up to 8 connections from just 1 cable using a few unicable splitters. That would be the easiest solution.

Or change the quad lnb to a quattro lnb and use a diseqc switch with the required number of outputs.

The receivers need the SCR/Unicable software or, have 'legacy' outputs in the system for those that don't.

And not all multiswitches need a quattro LNB, some will work with a quad. It's recommended though, that the 'next size up' dish is used with anything that adds noise to the system &, in Ireland, using Sky dishes would be going against this recommendation.
