can someone please explain what the story is with this installation.(my father is replacing dishwasher)There was only one pipe coming out of the dishwasher...no separate water feed. Just can't figure out what's going on...

The water inlet is through the white box.
Just turn off water unscrew connection at white box.

    Thanks for your reply.
So the water feed enters and the waste exits the appliance through the same hose??
This is what has me stumped. I'd never have thought it would be done this way.

No there should always be 2 pipes.
Is that video showing the old or the new dishwasher

    It's the old one.
I pulled it out last night. Only one hose attached to machine (the one in video). No other hoses/feeds in sight and no obvious point on the old dishwasher where another hose can be connected.

I didn't capture it very well.
There are three connections coming from that white box - the hot water feed, the grey flexible tubing that's connected to the dishwasher and the white flexible tubing leading to the waste pipe.

The dishwasher was working fine until last week.
I'm confused to say the least.

External changeover valve - there's an internal pipe and a wire running up the flexi pipe from the dishwasher to the solenoid valve (white box), which switches between lettign clean water into the machine, and waste water out. I assume that your new dishwasher has a separate inlet and outlet pipes? Turn off the water, pull out the white box completely. Plumb water inlet to copper, and feed the outlet to the wastewater pipe.

Be careful with the electrics in and going to that box
