    Hi all,

Looks like my car is sold and going to the UK.

What do I do about the VLC, does it still go to Shannon?
What does the UK buyer need from me upon sale?

    Thanks,
    Neil.

No It doesn't go to Shannon. The new owner needs it to register the car in the UK.

You can send a letter to Shannon (Registered) informing them you no longer own the car and it has been exported.
    Maybe ring them too.

You will need to hand over Vehicle Registartion Certificate (also called VRC, VLC, logbook, etc) to the buyer, as this is only document which will allow him to legally drive a car outside Ireland and register it in his name in his home country.

If it was me, I would also prepare a contract of sale - a small document containing details of seller and buyer (names, addresses, etc), details of the car (make, model, colour, reg. no, vin no, etc) and stating that seller is selling it to the buyer. All dated and signed by both parties in 2 copies (one for each party)
Then I would send a copy of it to shannon stating that I no longer own the car.

As there is no way to deregister a car in Ireland when selling to foreigner for export, there is no 100% guarantee to be safe from speeding fines, parking tickets, toll charges etc, which might be commited by new owner.
But in case of real trouble, by having a contract of sale signed by buyer, you actually have a document confirming you sold the car, which should be valid in court i suppose.

You should also be able to get a portion of the VRT back. I think it the amount of the vRT to import an equivalent car less 500 euro.
