Free supervision for internal meetings?

    Hi,

What is the opinion/practice in schools on being asked to supervise classes (unpaid) while internal meetings take place between DP and other staff members?

E.g. could be supervising that teacher’s class/DPs class while they attend meeting?

Generally younger teachers being asked to do this (no CIDs etc.), is it fair enough, to contribute to the school in this way, after all extracurricular is done in a teacher's own time?

Is this common practice in other schools?

If its part of s&s commitment then fair enough as its school business. If its people not doing s&s being asked then its not fair.

This has happened in one school I worked in. Non CIDs were asked to cover. In most schools I have seen the odd urgent phone call or emergency happen and anyone who is free in the staffroom is asked to jump in. It has actually been more established teachers who volunteer first.

On an unrelated aside, I see The Driver is on the thread. Can I please PM you a question? I don't want to post. It might just make me recognisable but I would love a principal's input.

    Feel free to PM.

Doesn't seem right to ask people to cover any class for no pay at all.

This would be for meetings that have been organised in advance, so its not a case of it being an emergency.
