Samsung Tab 3 7" - improve performance?

I got a Samsung Tab 3 7" for Christmas and tbh, find it quite sluggish. Is there a way of upgrading the OS to improve performance? Am I right in guessing that the embedded Samsung software is similar to laptop maker's traditional bloatware?

Anyone else had success with replacing the software?

I'm sure you'll find a rom and/or kernel to suit your needs, depends how much samsungness your willing to part with really.

Just out of interest is the Tab 3 currently running 4.2.2 or 4.3? 4.3 has trim support, which pretty much eliminates the 'lag' that starts to set in after a few weeks in android. Of course if the os is full of bloat to begin with, it won't help much.

Ah, think you could be on to something simi. Current version no. is Android 4.1.2. The Software update function doesn't detect any new updates as being available. Am I going to have to plug it into a laptop to upgrade?
