Megadeth Pulls Out of Soundwave to Defend Newsted

Blabbermouth are reporting that Megadeth have pulled out of the Soundwave Festival (a pretty big deal) because the promoter blamed Dave Mustaine for kicking Jason Newsted off the bill...Dave maintains this is a lie and the promoter has failed to apologize. So Mustaine has pulled Megadeth from the festival.
The festival organizers claimed via Twitter that Jason Newsted's band was removed from the dates "at the request of MEGADETH." However, MEGADETH tour manager Jim Carroccio denied this, telling ABC New Radio: "[MEGADETH mainman] Dave Mustaine is not responsible for booting NEWSTED off [the Soundwave festival 'off' dates]. Dave did not put [Jason] on the bill and did not take him off the bill."

The promoter has since apologized - via Twitter - stating he doesn't believe he should apologize though and asked if Mustaine will come back

All a bit weird isn't it...

Wonder if the strings to pull Newsted from the gig came from the Bay Area?? Not long ago since that scuzz interview came out, may have pissed Hetfield off

Why what was the story with that?

He spoke out about when his days were coming to an end in Metallica stuff he never said before in summary it pretty much outlines that it was in fact the nice guy James who decided to boot him out, it's a good interview even if Beez can be a plonker sometimes

There's also an embedded feed and a discussion about this in the Metallica (or Newsted) thread, so do check it out - well worth listening to the entire interview because they talk about a lot of things. I think the fact Beez was a fan club member and really passionate about Metallica actually helped the interview quite a bit. You'd be surprised how many Journalist's are not fans of the artists they interview in the slightest.

How would that happen though? Surely even Metallica don't have enough power to change the line-up of festivals that they are not even playing just to settle a 14 year old grudge???

Stranger things have happned but I would be shocked if that was the case!

metallica did not have anything to do with this...that's a silly idea

The biggest and most powerful metal band in the world having no influence on a metal festival, ok then

And you have conclusive proof they didn't? (No, I have no proof they did either)

Usually you prove something did happen, the other way sorts itself out once you do this

find it hard to believe Dave wouldn't know exactly who is on the billing of his gigs.

I believe promotors can to a large degree insist on the support acts in order to ensure ticket sales but in this case how would Jason not be a huge draw?

Maybe he asked for too much money? doubtful, really dont think he tours for money?

    there's nowt stranger than folk!

Would love to go see megadeth with Newsted in support, that would be great value for money!

This is all getting fairly bizarre now. A post on newsteds Facebook a few hours ago said they won't be playing any dates in February and march. The promoter can't get hold of the band but their equipment has arrived in Australia!

What are Metallica doing in Feb/March? Could there be some hush-hush project?

Weird they say they are not playing any dates. But if their equipment has arrived in Oz, then the below may still be on

This is getting ridiculous - even more so. I hope Metallica haven't had anything to do with this following Jason's comments in the media.

    what comments?

    what comments?

The comments he made a few weeks back about the REAL reason he left Metallica and basically why Hetfield was practically the sole reason for his decision...Newsted gave an interview on Scuzz and told the story for the first time

Metallica have nothing to do with this.... They must nearly have more mentions here than Dave or Jason
