    Hi everyone

Me and my partner are going to Florida this year and the idea was thrown out that we would get married over there, just the two of us. We both are not into the big weddings (im quite shy) plus we wouldn't have the money for it anyway.

I know you can go and get the wedding license from the courthouse, just wondering if anyone has any info on where they got married cost etc,.

    Thanks for any replies :)

I've actually been looking into getting married in the US (not Florida, but some other states). We'd love to elope, but we're still trying to gauge how our families would react if we went ahead with it.

It seems that generally (I'm open to correction) that once you receive your marriage licence, you must wait 24 hours or more before getting married. Nevada doesn't have this 24 hour rule, so you can just decide to get married in Vegas and there's no wait. Florida seems to have a 3 day wait, which is waived if you have completed a pre-marriage course (might not be feasible for you).

The process and cost will vary by state - for example, you might be able to apply for the license in advance online and just collect when you arrive. In some states, you make an appointment at the courthouse for your marriage ceremony, and in others you just show up and wait in line.

According to this site, it's less than $100 to get married in Florida:

There's a Destination Wedding forum on Trip Advisor that I found useful for getting started in the search. Once you decide on your location, you could search for a wedding planner/coordinator that can help you with the bookings and paperwork, if DIY looks difficult from overseas.

hi thanks for reply biddywiddy, we also worried how family members may react but don't really want the fuss or expense of plannig a wedding! So think we may go ahead with this plan, we are actually going to vegas for a few days but don't think I fancy getting married there.

anyone out there get married in florida, that they could recommed a location etc.?

    Thanks :)
