    I need 2 tyres for the motor, 205/55/16s. Currently have 2 pirellis on the back.

    What price should I expect for similar?

    You should get a good deal as that size is popular. I got two Goodyear excellence in that size two months ago for 85 euro a corner fitted and balanced. I could have got pirellis at the time for 79 euro or bridgestone turanzas for 79 euro. But I went with the Goodyear as they are long lasting in terms of thread wearing well and they offer great grip even in the wet. So I suppose your looking at 80-90 euro for a premium brand to answer your question possibly 100 euro depending on what part of the country your in.

    Paid 85 each for 2 firestone in cork a few weeks ago in that size.

    Paid 80 for 2 hankooks and 90 for two bridgestones incl fitting balancing etc for my avensis
    paid 105 a pop for michelin for the mothers car.

    The michelin really transformed her car but the tyres that were on it were champiro and i dont rate them highly

    Got a quote from one establishment for the following:

    Dunlop @ 95 Euro each. { 0 in stock, 24 hour delivery }

    Bridgestone @ 95 Euro each. { 4 in stock, ready for fitting }

    Firestone @ 85 Euro each. Euro each. { 0 in stock, 24 hour delivery }

    Dayton @ 75 Euro each. Euro each. { 0 in stock, 24 hour delivery }

    Nova @ 65 Euro each. { 4 in stock, ready for fitting

    Im quite fond of Firestones tbh; there was a set on my girlfriends car when we had the bad snow a few years back, and driving the car it may as well have had studded tires on it. Fantastic grip all round and lasted a good while too.

    Yeah I had a set before and liked them too.

    Another Quote:

    infinity €65
    kingstar €75
    hankook €80
    bridgestone pontenza €85
    bridgestone turanza €90

    I'd go with either of the Bridgestones or the Hankooks. The father has the Hankooks in that size on his Auris and they are good.

    I paid €75 for Hankook a few months ago. (Fitting included in price.)

    So, there's a twist in this story!!!!

    I went to a tyre centre to get the 2 tyres i wanted (one front tyre was well worn but the other not as bad but planned on changing both to keep them the same wear). When I said i wanted 205/55/16 he did a double take at the bake trye as it looked bigger.....

    Turns out I have a mismatch on the back, one 215/55/16 and one 205/55/16 but both in decent/good condition. The guy said that the car (2010 mondeo hatchback) usually has 215's.

    Whats the best solution for me here, get 3 new 215's or just 2 for the front.

    Whats the effect of leaving a 215/55 and a 205/55 on the back?

    Anyone got prices for 215/55/16? I thin the mentioned Kumo's are €100 but he only had one.

    If it was my car I would put all 205/55 16s on it. They are far cheaper than the 215s.

    I might take the better front tyre, switch it to the back to have 2 205's at back and change the worn 205 and the 215 for new 205's.

    For the benefit of anyone following this or searching in the future I got a quote as follows for 215/55/16:

    Continental @165 Euro each

    Goodyear @140 Euro each

    Kumho @115 Euro each

    Nankang @99 Euro each

    Winda @80 Euro each

    You said you have a good 205 on the front, why not move the 205 on the back to the front and put a new 215 on the back.

    Would there be any issue with having 205's on the front and 215's on the back?

    Think I'd prefer to have the whole lot on the same and 205's are cheaper......

    Just if your in any doubt don't touch nankangs or winda there absolute crap I wouldn't put them on a lawnmower tbh. As was already said the best thing to do is change to 205s and buy a decent brand such as handbook, Bridgestone or goodyear etc. a lot better than getting sh!t brand 215s for the same money.

    Think I'll go for a couple of Bridgestone 205's

    nct manual says its ok and will save you a few quid

    That would be the best option I think anyway. The difference is so slight in sizes it won't be noticeable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭toyotaavensis

    are you going to keep one 205 and one 215 on the back?
    that is an nct fail

    It is very small difference and no problem whatsoever. Changed size last year due to an availability, too (on different car).
    Will save the op a lot of cash in long term.

    i think he's putting the good 205 from the front onto the back to replace the 215 and then buying 2 205s for the front meaning 205s all around.

    Am getting new alloys which come with 2 good tyres (Bridgestone 215/55/16). The alloys I have at the minute have two good HanKook's (205/55/16).

    Ideally would like to avoid buying new tyres if possible.

    Is running two 215's and two 205's a problem?

    It depends on the car. I wouldn't do it with any modern stuff with traction control as it can confuse the system.

    I personally wouldn't do it. Tyres are cheap, bodywork repairs aren't ;)

    You are lucky! narrower tyres on the rear could have led to an accident. We used to do that to race cars to make them tail happy, but thats not something you should do on the road with a driver who isnt used to it.

    Having narrower tyres on the front wont cause an accident, but your braking distances will be increased over standard as the front does most of the braking.

    Get the proper 215's all round and have peace of mind. Dont cheap out on the tyres either, for the sake of a few quid, you put your life in your tyres hands sometimes.

    FYI i paid €420 for 4 brand new 205/55/16 Michelin Engery A rated tyres. They were the top spec ones.

    Very true. Guess I'll just bite the bullet and buy 2 new tyres.

    The standard spec tyres for the car are 205 so will go with those. Neither of us are boy racers ;)
