Windows 8 shuts down google chrome when I run java

EDIT: Problem temporarily solved. I had to set my java security setting to medium. I'm trying to access a site that needs Java to run. When I click 'always run' or 'run this time' it just shuts Google Chrome down instantly. Anyone know this happens?

The javascript on the webpage could be closing the page when the java application exits. When you have other tabs open does it close just the tab with the java applet or the entire browser?
