I am willing to stay in hostels and camp but I still think a 2 week holiday in the West of Ireland could cost a bit with Irish food and drink being much more expensive than abroad?

    Is a deal abroad better?

’Yes’ provided you don’t mind that post mock leaving cert party in the next hotel room all night long. This is what happened to me in County Kerry just over ten years ago. ’Reputable ’ hotel as well. Yes, I did make 4 calls during the night to concierge/nighstaff they could not give a fcuk. Travelling solo on holiday in Ireland needs careful preparation beforehand. Getting a cheap holier in Irelands requires good homework too TBH. Trying both solo and cheap holiday in Ireland both North and South has good chance of ending in tears. Trust me. PM me for further explanation of this sentence.Go abroad , OP.

    Bitter much?

It's perfectly easy to have a good, cheap self-catering holiday in Ireland. Eating and Drinking out can be expensive, see if you can use a number of vouchers for holidays and meals, look at www.mydealpage.ie for offers and try to combine them into your trip.

Most teenagers these days go abroad to celebrate their leaving

I have had loads of cheap holidays in Ireland where we rented self catering apartments or houses.
Eating out can be expensive, but if you have cooking facilities you can eat in and live cheaply.

There is loads of self catering accomodation in Ireland. at all prices and if you look, there is good value available,

You haven't said where you want to go, or what you want to do. Maybe with more information, people can give better advice.

thing with the self catering option and eating in and all
its just fecking easier to do all that in your own house!

so its a bit pointless to have a cheap self catering job in the arsehol of nowhere trying to cook with cheap pots and blunt knifes , then sitting with an ancient tv trying to tune into one channel.

i used to do that and now just drive on days out , maybe try find a cheap hotel and do another day out on the way home again.

    Great idea above.

The cost of travel has improved over the last few years, bus companies like goBus, Dublin Coach or CityLink are good quality and very reasonable price wise. Irish Rail can be great also but very dependant on booking at the right time.
