Beyond taking a redundancy (which is only applicable in certain circumstances if you're offered a role)? Not really.

It's a bit vague on what constitutes a reasonable offer of a new role, but it has to have at least the same benefits and status.

Well say for example i was a developer and they offered me an operational support role which would be a complete career u turn. there is no change to benefits of pay at all. its just that career wise do i have to take what they offer or can i ask to be made redundant if i do not feel the role will benefit me in the long term.

Unfortunately it's a bit vague. From this page:
What is a reasonable alternative ?

If your employer makes you a reasonable offer of alternative work, and you refuse it, you may lose your entitlement to a redundancy payment. What is reasonable depends on the facts of each case. Generally speaking, alternatives which involve a loss of status or lessening of the terms and conditions would not be considered reasonable. Likewise, you may be justified in refusing an offer that involves you travelling an unreasonable distance to work.

I think you'd have to argue that it was a step down in status, rather than not good for your long term career.

    A little more info here.

How long are you in the company? If you're not in-line for a big redundancy payout, then it might be worth your while accepting that sort of role and looking for another developer role in the meantime.
