    Hi John,

I booked with them last year for two weeks from Nantes airport. Car was hired through Avis. Car was fine, bigger than expected. As you'll find mentioned elsewhere, get excess car hire insurance before you go. It's alot cheaper than buying at the time of booking or at the rental desk. No issues at all with Argus Hire. Had a slight issue with Avis about a fine from the French police post holiday, but that was sorted.

    Hi John,
I use ArgusCarHire all of the time and I find them very good. I have booked with them 3 times for Girona. Here is my bit of advice. Before you book, look at the rental conditions. If the fuel policy is Collect the car with a full tank and return empty, do not book that particular car. More than likely this company is GoldCar and if you google them, you will see that some people have had issues with them. Because they charge you a high price for the tank of fuel when you get there, that is how they can offer a cheaper car hire rate. Plus no-one ever returns a car with an empty tank, so they make again on the remaining fuel. If a company insisted on it, I would love to actually take it back completely empty. That would teach them!

But the good thing with ArgusCarHire is that you can cancel you booking for free, I think up to 7 days beforehand. When making one of my bookings to Girona, I forgot to look at the fuel policy and I was allocated GoldCar. I immediately went into Manage My Booking, cancelled it and then booked a car with the Collect Full / Return Full policy.

So my bookings have been with Avis & Alamo/Atesa who I think are also part of the National & Enterprise car hire companies. The cars were great... and as the previous poster said, bigger than expected. When I got there, I asked them if they had a diesel (for the fuel economy). I hadn't specifically booked one but they very kindly obliged.

They also asked me if I was taking the car in to France, as there would be a 50 euro charge for international insurance / breakdown assistance.

You could also take a look at Ebookers, as they actually show you the different car hire companies names and you select the company. But I usually found ArgusCarHire to be cheaper.

I also agree with the Dubstar above... get excess insurance before you go. I have an annual policy and it only cost about 30 euro. You could pay more than this at the car hire desk just for the one rental.

These are some threads that I & others have put up before about the Girona area, if they are of any help to you.

They are just a broker, they don't really have anything to do with the rental unless you take out the excess cover with them.

Agree 100% with what J T Dublin said regarding Goldcar. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I too have used Argus car hire many times and never had any problems with them, but they are only the brokers so you need to do some investigation into the car hire company that comes up with them.

    Enjoy your trip.
