Laptop cutting out when plugged in

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is over 4 years old. Recently it cuts out when it is plugged in (after about 15 minutes or less). It doesn't cut out when it is running on the battery alone. Does anyone know what is causing this?

I have tried 2 different chargers for it (as I know someone who had the same laptop) and the same thing is happening when the laptop is plugged in with either of the chargers. I know it is possible that there is a problem with both chargers but it seems unlikely, and probably is some issue with my laptop. My friends laptop broke a while ago so we cannot test the charger on theirs to see if the same thing would happen to theirs.

The battery is not lasting very long so it is driving me crazy, as I feel I am constantly in a race against time as I see the battery running down :p. If anyone knows what might be wrong, do you think is it worth worth trying to fix this, or should I just cut my losses and get another laptop? I am particularly broke at the moment, so on the one hand I don't want to rush out and buy a new laptop without good reason, and on the other I don't want to throw good money after bad by trying to fix a computer that is on its last legs.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

When the laptop is plugged in and running gently wiggle the ac adaptor plug in the side of the laptop.if it shuts down, the connection in the laptop is on the way out.

Are they genuine chargers? Even so, if the chargers are burnt out (which can happen very easily especially if trying to charge an end of life batter - as in your case) they may not be able to pass enough current to keep the laptop up as well as charge the battery. It might be time to sell her on because you will eventually destroy your hard drive if it keeps powering off suddenly.

Thanks MP22, I did that and it is not cutting out. Bizarrely the laptop is working fine today and has not cut out even though it is plugged in, though this is probably a temporary reprieve!
