    Hi all,
my apologies if this has been asked already. I want to get rid of all the various boxes and crap under my TV and place them all in a remote location. Our home is wired for cat5 and coax and the little banana plug things throughout.

what is the best way to get video from a few different sources to the TV. is it possible to send hdmi over cat 5 from a few different sources? (cable TV box and WD media hub)

how do the remote control signals get to each? is there a single clever sort of hub that could manage all this?

Yes it is possible. You must have 2 x Cat5e cables run to each location. You then make them off on RJ45 glass plugs and use some RJ45-HDMI Baluns to convert the 2 x Cat5e cables into a HDMI signal.

I'm assuming you only have 1 cat5 cable. AFAIK jpb14 is correct you need 2 cables. You could use "homeplugs" which work well to give you a second cat5 if you don't want to run a second cable.

Then install a 'source selector' box in your other room that you plug all your HDMI's into and use a 'remote control extender' so your remote controls will work from your main room.

How many TV sources do you have?
