I will going out from my school as an Irish oral examiner again this year and have to find a substitute Irish teacher to cover my classes for the week - I will be going out for the week from march 31st.Also there another Irish teacher going out the following week.Don't know if she has found cover yet but if not that would mean we would be looking for cover for 2 weeks. If anybody interested or knows of somebody who would be interested please PM me - I am located in the Navan/Kells area

    Galwayhooker,

Just a question.. is it not up to management to find a replacement for you, as you would have no direct access to their credentials, teaching council details etc?
It just strikes me that you should not have to worry about this?

Also, I have applied for orals/practicals appointment, but have heard nothing as yet.
Languages must have been dealt with first.

    Anyone anything to add?

I'm not sure in this one. It's impossible to get Irish subs.

On the one hand the school should hire one, on the other they could decide not to release teachers and remove the problem.

I have been refused permission to go as I couldnt find a qualified sub.

God, didn't realise that it was so hard to find Irish subs - I was looking for job as an Irish teacher for years and it was next to impossible to find work - seemed to me that schools had the pick of who they wanted.
If I don't find a sub I won't be allowed out either.Thought schools would have lots of CVs sent in from people looking for work including Irish teachers

They are not tc reg for sec level and hence unqualified. Hens teeth and flying pigs are easier to find than Irish, home ec and French subs.

sounds like ur p knows its an,impossible task but easier than saying u cant go

My school has never had any problem getting an Irish sub., but getting a sub for just one week in certain subjects is always likely to be difficult.
