I'm doing the leaving cert and I plan on studying at NUIG. But recently I discovered that two people who I really don't like (the kind that would talk about you behind your back even if you were only two feet away from them- we all know the type) are planning on going to GMIT. What I want to know is will that have have any impact on me? Is Galway a big enough place that I will hardly ever run into them? I realise that on nights out it could happen but I'm talking on a general day to day basis. Many thanks in advance :)

You shouldn't let that stop you studying where you've chosen, even if they were in the dorm next to you.

College isn't like secondary school, you'll find most people have no time for the likes mentioned above.

Thanks for the reply. It's good to hear that. There's a real small town mentality in secondary schools. And I'm not going to let it stop me - first choice on the CAO, so roll on September.

There are people who went to NUIG from my secondary school and Im lucky if I see them in a crowd once a semester. If they're in GMIT you'll probably never see them.

The colleges are situated a good bit away from one another, and bear in mind there will be hundreds of others starting studying in NUIG, and in GMIT, so you will probably never even see these people.
Glad to see you are not going to let it worry you, (it shouldn't) and best of luck with your studies.

Thanks for that. Well if there in the same college as you and you barely see them I'm grand so. Never seeing them again would be too soon put it that way!

Thanks for the reply, and that's a good point. I'm fairly unfamiliar with Galway so I just wanted to see what the story was. Sound out :)

I did the same degree as some of my former (some annoying) school colleagues, and I rarely saw them. (OK it was Arts, and we had different subject combinations, but I never even ran into them in the library!)

Don't let it put you off. You'll make new friends and so will they.

I can best you on that one!
Two right little b*tches from my school ended up doing science with me. I had every single lecture with these girls. But for the first two years there are hundreds in there so it didnt bother me..then one ended up repeating and her friend didnt hang out with her as much anymore.
The girl that didnt repeat ended up doing all the same subjects as me , saw her everyday but i noticed she wasnt the same bitchy person on her own. One class night out we got drunk and had a chat about how much we hated eachother in school and how we shouldnt let it ruin our final year. Still talk to her now after being finished for two years.

Them going to a totally different college will not impact on you OP, even if they are in the same lecture hall.. People change after school and if they don't then they are just childish amd you shouldnt worry about them anyway!
    Sorry that was loooong!

Echoing the last poster. 2 ******* from same area as me were on same course as me. had every lecture with them for 2+ years. as classes were quite big you would rarely see them.
college is a new environment, time for new experiences. forget about them and concentrate on yourself both your course, making new friends etc and you will be fine. forget about others and think whats best for you
