In terms of fielding an 8 person final what do people reckon is the strongest event both men and women?

Could we do heats in the beer mile and have a final, say, 30 minutes later? Now that would be entertaining to watch!

Probably the women's 800m and the men's 1,500m would be the two strongest in terms of depth.
Hoping Ciara Mageean will be back on the scene at some stage this year.

The men's sprints are getting pretty deep also. 14 people sub 7s so far in the 60m this year, with six of those (I think) sub 6.9. The 400m is probably the strongest of them, with quite a few capable of going sub 47s this year. I'll list the ones I can think of for the craic: B Gregan, B Murphy, T Barr, D Kervick, R Morrissey, T Crowe, J Harvey. Sub 47s, while not world class, is international standard running, and it has to be recognised that Irish sprinting is on an upward curve at the moment.

Does anyone know whether Gillick has retired btw?

Don't think I've ever heard of Doyle, is it not meant to be 8 men and 8 women?! That was where I got confused! :)

Michael Doyle has a decent shot at making championships in men's 50km walk, he's been round a while now, went to live in Spain for a short time I believe but he's back in Ireland again as far as I know and looking to make our team for Euro Champs in Zurich.
