    Hi Looking for all opinions

I am looking for at buying a new car, as the thread suggests a 2010 saloon. I have it in my head a Opel/vauxhall insignia. It's my favourite looking from the outside. But the interior seems a bit basic and I kind of like the idea of integrated Bluetooth which it doesn't seem to have. Could I get a kit fitted in halfords or something?

Or are tree better saloons out there? A4 is prob a bit too expensive but open to all comments. Cheers

Insignias are nice inside unless they're the poverty spec S model. Try and get an SC at a minimum, but ideally an SE, SRi or Elite. UK (Vauxhall) specs are similar to Ireland, I wouldn't bother looking in the UK unless it's cheaper, as the Insignia is one of the few cars Irish people tended to buy with a decent amount of spec - certainly there's no shortage or SE or better spec Insignias in Ireland.

Think I would get an a4 instead of a 520. Had a look at the accord alright, not as keen on the external but think interior has a definite edge!

Cheers for feedback lads, keep them ideas flowing

Passat CC, a truly beautiful car.

Not much room in the back though.

Would you consider the Skoda Octavia or Superb? I know they are not saloons but they do follow that styling.

Every time I pass one all that I think of is an armadillo. I would never have considered one "beautiful" to be fair. Very little flair about it, more about passifying straight laced Passat drivers with something slightly different. 5/10 from me on that one.

I always liked the look of the CC. It still reminds me if the merc CLS in shape. They are still relatively rare to see compared to passat itself.

What do passat people buy if they are feeling daring, need something different, like they need to rip it all up and shake themselves out of a rut?

    Passat cc... Base model please...

In fairness passat is nice looking but is it a bit boring?? Might be convincing myself with the Saab

If you like the insignia why not. Parrot Bluetooth kit should sort any issues on that side.
Dunno much about the insignias really. I presume probably any other german saloon of similar age spec power will be significantly more expensive. If you can live with being a social outcast ( what you mean you dont drive a silver or dark coloured passat???) go for it? ;-)

    No. They get a 520D.

I always thought the Insignia was a Hatch?

There is a saloon version of the Insignia too.

That exeo is a great shout!

You think. You don't look at the reg plate to figure out how old it is, you carbon date it.

Or the cheapest entry model A4 possible because it has the four rings. :D

Also how an insignia, Exeo or 9-3 are any less boring than a Passat CC makes the mind boggle.

If I were in the market for a Saloon I'd need some serious convincing to get anything other than an Alfa 159 Ti
    no-image-large.gif

Here's a 2008 one http://www.carzone.ie/search/Alfa-Romeo/159/2.4-JTDM but there are newer ones knocking around too.

Can never understand the fascination with the Alfa 159 on this forum - it's just a good looking Vectra after all.
(runs for cover before the Alfisti see this:pac:)

Thread title is a big clue to what the Op is looking for;)

Horses for courses of course. Maybe all the members have good taste!! But anyway I think its by far the best looking saloon out there. If I were to be loking at any saloon in the drive I'd sooner be looking at a 159

Also that's prob my first ever post mentioning an Alfa Romeo.

The Passat CC is starting to become my favourite but it seems to be working out a bit pricey. Would be looking for one with around 70000 miles so seems to be around 15000?? Am i right or does this seem very expensive?

What year, trim level is it?

Prob be looking at a 2010, the 140 bhp model prob although i think there is a 168GT which would be nice but prob too expensive. most seem to be 2L Tdi

The 140bhp was also available in GT trim which is UK spec. But I'd doubt you will get a sub 100k miles on your budget. They are rare enough here and hold their value. You might have to go to the UK for one.

This isn't a GT but does have half leather and Sat Nav:

Cheers Bazz you seem to know your stuff, have no problem going up north, brought my last car in a VRTed it so would prob be going this way to et the higher spec anyway.

Looking at getting this in the summer anyway so just researching but have seen that some iphones were having difficulty pairing with the VW bluetooths around the time. Was this sorted or is it an ongoing prob??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,411 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

    I have a 2011 CC GT. :)

No idea about the iOS phones as I don't have one but I've a Blackberry and Nokia Windows Phone paired with no issues. My old Android phone had no issues either but I would imagine that it may depend on the stereo head unit and Bluetooth model fitted to the car.

Afaik Bluetooth was not standard on the CC. Irish CCs had a very basic stereo fitted whereas nearly all UK spec CCs came with a touchscreen stereo as standard, while higher spec ones had integrated Sat Nav and voice activated Bluetooth.

Also any opinions on whether the Passat CC is worth about 5000 grand more than an insignia on a similar Spec 2010 model? Interior is nicer for sure but seems way over the top price diffrential

While the CC uses a lot of common parts with the standard Passat, they really are not directly comparable with an Insignia. Insignia is a nice car but because of their market position and popularity with fleet buyers they don't hold their value very well. The CC on the other hand is bit of a rarer niche model and also cost a lot more when new. You also have to factor in the VW strong resale value in general (deserved or undeserved). Whether you want to spend up to €5k more for one will boil down to you. If a decent spec Insignia does the same job as a CC for you then it doesn't make sense to spend €5k for a CC.

If I can get the 170 CC maybe but but if it's the same bhp, it would be hard to justify an extra 5gs- I'll keep an eye an make my mind up in summer!! Presume your recommending the CC so?? :-)

The jury is out at the moment with mine. I'm getting it looked at tomorrow in Belfast but it's not looking good. Oil has leaked out onto the flywheel and clutch which may mean both need replacing along with the gearbox. Fortunately for me it's still under warranty but in the North. I may just be unlucky though.
