    Hi Urfa,

Hi mckerry, aw best of look today! Don't let the weather put you off :) I'm in Tuesday afternoon and then trinity the following Tuesday. Please let me know how you get on and any heads up. :)

    Hey Everyone,
Sorry for the delay!! I started 'studying' for the interviews and completely forgot about this!! I had my interview with UCD last Tuesday and I have my Trinity one this Tuesday coming!

Elizabeth, I have had 3 placements with college in disability and homeless services. And have since been working in homeless services for 1.5 years full time and one year part time! Am now working in Aftercare!

I've heard that ucd is much harder than trinity! Trinity try to get a feel for the type of person you are and how your mind works basically!! Not as specific as ucd! Trinitys questions are supposedly more broad and general than ucd!

How did you guys find the ucd interview?

    Hey!
I'm the same as you, Tuesday for UCD and this Tuesday for Trinity!
We'll it seemed ok, could have answered some things better, you know yourself! But overall happy enough. I had a girl called Muireann and a medical sw from Temple st they were both young which made it less daunting. How did you get on?
Is this your first time applying?

Aww I might see you there!!

I found mine tough..I blanked in there! Could have answered them alot better but I paniced! Bit sickened really! But sure we'll wait and see! I had Valerie On Brien and Trish. They were both nice but the nerves got to me! I overthinked everything!
Yes my first time applying! How about you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 Elizabeth Smith

Don't worry, everyone panics so they are used to that and I heard people coming out of their interviews saying there was stuff that they panicked on too.

Yeah it's my second year applying, I actually cringe at the thought of my interview last year...it was awful!!!

How did you get into work in aftercare? That's what I did my thesis on, are you working for EPIC?

Thanks, yea fingers crossed for tuesdays one!!

O very good! No I work with Focus Irelands aftercare progamme!

How you feeling about the Trinity Interview?

Has anybody else heard from ucd yet? I'm presuming the ones that haven't heard are on the waiting list or didn't get a place

Does anyone know, on average, how many people apply and how many are accepted? I'm looking to apply next year, or likely the year after as an international student. I studied at UL during my undergrad, and my heart is set on returning to Ireland for my masters. I've wondered how many international students they've accepted into MSW courses, especially Canadians. I'd appreciate any information! Thanks!

And good luck to those who applied this year!!!

i got a letter today saying i got waiting list :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 50 ✭✭Urfa

I was just looking at the fees, they are expensive but very expensive for non EU students appro 14.000e per year i think!! I'm not sure how many apply but as you can probably tell it's competitive and places are limited. each college states on their website how many places. trinity for example is approx 22 places this year. UCC/UCD and NUIG generally take 50+

Crazygal dont give up yet!! Do you know where you are on the waiting list? Im sure there'll be a few rejections!!

Hi Urfa, where are you accepting? You can apply for the susi grant in may which is 2,000e also you can claim tax back from your fees @ 21% :)

    Hi there,

Well done! Ok so UCD and Trinity interviews are really based on Coru guidelines, ethics, using theory for practice (be able to integrate this into your work experience)..such as ecological theory, attachment etc.
I would recommend that you are aware of the different roles that social workers do in different settings such as medical, mental health, child protection...
Also to be aware of any piece of research that you find interesting/significant to you, maybe try to stay away from one taken off the websites and go for something more classic from one of the major sociologists.
You will more than likely be asked, why this profession? why should we pick you?
Try to seem as genuine as you can and not sound like your reading out what you prepared!
With both interviews you will have a lecturer and a practicing social worker, generally they have male/female...sorry loads of info there!!!
Feel free to mail me if your stuck with anything..that was me last year and I was so nervous!!

    Hi guys.

Just got my interview date for UCD and reading through this post has been really helpful. Just wondering if anyone has any other tips or recommendations for the interview? Things that are essential to know before going in? I'm very anxious so really want to start to prepare myself as early as possible.
