I am looking for a good website to keep track of travel plans. Ideally I post in confirmation numbers and it pulls in the details. (I have tried tripit but didn't like it)

Would like to keep track of flights, car hire and hotels. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I use Worldmate to track itineraries. Forward it in your confirmations and it will hold the plan for you

I love this app. If you're getting connecting flights it usually sends you gate details for your next flight when your first flight lands

flight update pro version on IOS is great. Wish they'd make an android version.
you can put flights in as part of a trip and you get push updates and gate info and delays etc.

I tried tripit but didn't like it. Way too many notifications for my liking as well as loads of incorrect information.

Basically just want somewhere to keep all my itineraries, don't see a need for updates, never found them useful.

I'd vote a million times for tripit, except we're not actually voting.

What kind of notifications and updates were you getting? In your settings you can switch off notifications - here are the options
    About trips
    Booking Email Confirmations
Receive a confirmation after forwarding plans to plans@tripit.com to show that we've received and processed it.
    Pre-Trip Updates
Receive an email reminder before the start of a trip with detailed plans and alerts.

    From people
    Invitations & Notifications
Receive email when someone shares an itinerary or plans with you on TripIt, invites you to connect on TripIt, invites you to join a group on TripIt, or comments on your trip.
    Weekly Network Updates
We'll send you a weekly email with updates about your connections and shared trips.

    From TripIt
    TripIt Product Updates and Offers
Receive information about product updates, offers and promotions.
    TripIt Partner Offers
Receive exclusive offers from our trusted partners.
    TripIt Surveys
We want to hear from you. Participate in TripIt customer surveys.

There's a tickbox for each one, just switch them all off if they bother you. You can only do this from the website, but once it's set there, those are the settings for the app as well.

I second Worldmate, its a great app, I use it religiously for my travel plans. I've used TripIt in the past and there was something about it I didn't like, not sure what but really didn't like it.

    theres a few negatives.
If planning a road trip by car, it has no feature to drive that bit
If the info is in a flat text format like you get from a ferry company (similar to Aerlingus till a couple of years back) with the info hidden in the middle of the terms and conditions, then it'll not have a clue how to extract your booking.
And if that happens then adding by hand is possible but its less than a perfect science.
Tripit also cannot deal with anything that isnt in english. Well, maybe it can do spanish but it cant do german even for the simplest websites that it otherwise can deal with, and then you get into the pain of adding it by hand.
Theres also some stuff that cannot be edited properly on the app which is a pain if youre using an ipad which then means you needing to startup the laptop just for a change that takes 30 seconds.

    BUT
if the stuff gets imported correctly, which is the case for major airlines and hotel sites like hotels.com or bookings.com then youre flying.

Never knew something like this existed.
But what are its big selling points.
When I book hotels I use booking.com. It is an excellent app and at a touch I have access to all my current and previous bookings.
Other than that I keep all my flights and other stuff in my gmail account. I normally just 'star' mark the emails I need, so they are easy to find.
So again what use does it have?
One thing I would like is to be able to save maps offline. Google maps doesnt allow you to select certain amounts/areas on the map.
    Cheers

Both those apps have a few videos that you could watch to get a better overview, but to me the main things are the (effortless) calendar integration, and being able to see the full schedule in one go. If you have a PA/mammy, you can also share your travel plans with them, and they can update/make changes on your behalf if required.

The tripit app on my phone has a widget that shows me upcoming trips, and the details of each trip. When I click into a trip I have a nicely laid out agenda - e.g. 10am, catch flight to somewhere, 3pm transfer to this other flight (at gate xxx), here are the directions from the airport to your hotel. Here's your hotel reservation number and details, here's a restaurant you were thinking of eating at (with directions). In the morning your first meeting is at 9am, and here are directions to the office...

Sure, yes, you have all that info in your mail, but if you're anything like me, with multiple trips in planning at a time, searching for the next step in your itinerary in gmail can be slow, and requires internet access.

If my flight changes 3 times, I'd end up with 3 mails in gmail, as opposed to one up to date entry in Tripit.

For work travel, Tripit also integrates with our expensing system, which is very handy, but not every company does that. I use it for complicated personal travel plans as well. If I was just getting a train to Cork for the weekend, I wouldn't bother :)

These apps aren't required - if your system works for you, cool.

I'll have another look at tripit, I just installed WorldMate and imported all my flights and hotels but they kept making new trips instead of it being one long trip which was annoying.

I might of written off tripit to early but I was getting updates on all the flights most of which were wrong.

I wonder had you upgraded to Tripit pro, which apparently sends SMSs about flight changes/cancellations etc? I just have the basic version and it doesn't do that.

From something I heard before, I think Tripit Pro is really only useful in the US, but I can't remember where I heard that.

I had the tripit pro free trial. I was travelling in America on US but still had a lot of mistakes. Wrong gates and even wrong terminal for one flight.

Also, had a email and text saying my flight was delayed by 30 minutes. I received that on the plane 5 minutes before the flight was due to depart when the door was closed and we were pushing back. Ill try it without the alerts and updates and purely to keep track of the reservations and see what its like.

If you have an Android phone, Google now is great for tracking flights (though obviously needs an internet connection). Just type in a flight number (e.g. US123), and it shows you a simple card with the flight info on it, including delays, expected arrival time etc.

I'm a frequent flyer and a Tripit Pro user and the app has paid itself back a million times over. Twice I can remember being informed that a flight was severely delayed minutes before it was announced at the gate and using the app to locate an alternative flight before everyone else got the info. The delay with the info may though have been down to the staff on duty those times.

You can try Check My Trip. It's simple enough, just add your confirmation code and surname. It doesn't work for Aer Lingus / Ryanair though.

I use TripIt all the time, just forward the confirmations from our agency, HRG, and the details are synced to an Outlook calendar!

The only issue I have is that a reservation made by the agency has a standard format, i.e. the one you can use on Check My Trip, whereas Ryanair / Aer Lingus have separate booking codes and these don't get added to the Trip It itinerary. The only reason I'd like these to be added is for checking in.

I've basically built my trip twice once in Tripit and once in WorldMate and find WorldMate a lot better so will stick with them. Tripit had a few import errors and didn't work with a few of my itineraries which WorldMate imported without issue. Also tripit though Hanoi was in Nairobi!

CheckMyTrip is just a PNR lookup site for Amadeus based PNRs I think?
