classic insurance

I'm buying a car for the summer, basically it's 1995 and it will only be used for the odd sunny day, if we get any that is!
My current insurance policy on my daily driver covers me to drive any car third party only even if the car has no insurance, as long as it's not in my name.
Most of the classic insurance policies I have enquired about will only offer third party only anyway, is there any point in having a classic policy in this case or just buy the new car in my wife's name and drive it on my current policy?

Anybody any advice or experience of this?

I've taxed cars online before when I didn't have insurance details to hand and filled in the details of insurance section with made up numbers and never had any problem!

I'm unsure, I'd rather have the car on a separate classic policy, but at the same time I am covered to drive a car on my daily policy, so for example, if I was to use an otherwise uninsured car for a while lets say if my own car was off the road, it wouldn't have a disc in the window, so I'm sure it is not a major issue, I'll have to look into it more

It could be a major issue if the Gards stop you. A classic policy will cost you about €300 and you will be fully compliant. I'm with Axa and swear by them.

Depends on the car, my insurer (First Ireland) doesn't class 'old japanese cars' as classic. Classics can be insured for as little as €250 fully comp.
