Got invited to the beta for this and looks really good. I only tried it on a five year old netbook with tf2 and xcom and didn't work well. I'm not really surprised. If you had a laptop or PC I would say it would work pretty good. Anyone else try it out.

Yeah, I had a go at it, I hooked my laptop (Intel i7 with a Geforce GE 425M, so it's no slouch for playing games in itself) to my TV and streamed a couple of games from my gaming pc over a wired gigabit connection. It was seamless and flawless. Then I tried streaming to a desktop pc with an Intel Integrated GPU over wireless and it was playable but choppy, which I suspect is more to do with the wireless than the pc. I had hoped to do further testing in different environments over the last few days but life got in the way. I am hoping to test some more over the next couple of days. I was impressed with my initial tests though.

Have been trying this today, have to say I'm really impressed with how smoothly its running, not a big fan of controllers so thats a bit of a problem but still, very promising

Played Grid 2 on an Intel HD i3 laptop, ran flawlessly. Hard to tell that it was streaming in the first place

Think Steam streaming is PC runs the game and a device plays over network/internet. Gaikai like

    origin streaming is twitch.

    I think anyway

This isnt just passive streaming like twitch. With this you can stream your games to another less powerful windows, Mac or Linux PC and play them on it.

I'm looking forward to giving this a go at the weekend to see how it performs. I've got a very weak HTPC in my bedroom that I'd love to be able to play something turn based on for when I get into the bed and want to wind down. If it could play Civ or something like that, I'd be most pleased, but it's only got a wee Atom and integrated graphics, so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Still, it's a really nice feature to have available.

I'm not sure I get the point to be honest..

So you have a game on your PC say (which has to be switched on for the duration I assume?) and then you can effectively remote into it and play the game from another weaker machine? So you're running 2 machines for one game?

Why not just play at the PC/desk - especially as this is limited to local LAN only? I can't imagine a laptop keyboard and touchpad being very comfortable for a FPS, and unless you live in a mansion chances are it's only going to be a room away anyway.

Where this would be cool would be if the game processing/rendering was handled by a remote server, but that would really kill the PC market and AMD/NVidia probably wouldn't appreciate not being able to sell €300+ video cards anymore.

Or am I missing something else?

The desire to play controller-friendly games from the comfort of one's own couch at levels of performance and graphical fidelity consoles can't manage.

This interests me. I have a laptop that can hardly handle Magicka, but it can stream fine. When I get home, I'll see how it handles something meaty like Just Cause 2 running on the behemoth upstairs. Would be great for socialising with the rest of the house instead of staying in my room...

I wonder, can you load up two different Steam clients on one pc?

Would be pretty cool if you could stream from your machine to a laptop, while also playing the same game. Might use up way too many resources, but would be handy for playing co-op with people who don't have powerful laptops.

I spent an hour playing Civ V on the craptop. That shouldn't be even remotely possible on the lowest settings, never mind the DX 11 stuff up full. There were some lag problems but I'd say most of that is because it was over WiFi and my desktop is a few rooms away. I'll mess about with some other options during the weekend and see how it goes, but I'm liking this.

Never had any lag issues using Wifi, but my machines are a fair bit closer. I'm going to try OpenVPN to see how it performs outside of the network

Dont suppose there is an android app for this :D

You can use Kainy to stream games from PC to Android, its not a patch on the Steam streaming though

This is very impressive, ran flawlessly over wifi (mixture of n and ac). Local machine detection crapped out the second time I fired it up, seems to be a common issue due to a port conflict - Dropbox perhaps, but a reboot fixed it.
You can enable performance overlays in settings to see how you're doing latency wise too.

I would love to see this on the PS4 but it'll never happen. According to Valve all it really needs in hardware H.264 support so there is no reason you couldn't do this on iOS or Android. I can't imagine console makers want the competition.

I can always just connect my low spec 2010 MBP to my TV and work through my backlog on my sofa, especially since the dual shock 4 works with OS X via Bluetooth.
