Advice re. Tablet purchase

    Hi all,

I was wondering (hopefully it's ok to post here) if people who are more au fait with tablets could recommend one to me. I'm not fussy about particular brands. My requirements are:

    Used for watching tv/movies
Can be hooked up to my tv (I assume with hdmi cable... not very tech savvy so not 100% sure if that's possible)
Good for general browsing internet/online shopping
    Used for Skype
Decent battery life but doesn't have to be amazing as I'm never away very long to be unable to charge it.
I'd prefer if the screen was more than 7' but if it met the rest of my requirements I'd be ok with that.
    Budget of about €200-€250.

Would really appreciate some guidance. Thanks all.

Nexus 7 2013 plus a Slimport Cable will answer every question you have asked.

I'd like to recycle this thread if I may rather than setting up a new one.

I'm hoping to get something which ticks a lot of the same boxes as the OP has outlined here. However, moving on from a laptop, I think I might be interested in a 10' model, and my budget would extend to around the €300 mark.

I've read some positive reviews about the Nexus 10, indifferent views to many of the Samsung models. I'd probably stay away from Apple, I've lasted this long I may as well continue. Thoughts?

The Nexus 10 is perfect for what you have outlined, don't even need a slim port lead, just a HDMI to micro HDMI.

You might not even need a cable!!!!

If you got a telly which supports Miracast, which works with N10's, at least with JB,not sure if KitKat broke it.....

Of course, there is also chromecast, and allcast, and ezcast, etc, etc.....DLNA!!!

Don't forget Plex and XBMC.....so much media, so much choice........

sooooo little time, honestly, its hard to get time to watch everything....

I've had more choice, since I dumped Sly, and got Netflix ( I forgot that)....

even those Android Mini TV.....feckin brilliant!!!

    Miracast isn't great.

Well thats not 100% true I suppose. If you are close to the tv and in kind of direct sight then it works as you would expect and streaming HD movies from the Nexus to the tv is pretty awesome. There is a serious lag though especially when you move further from the tv. Obviously this only effects gaming so streaming and browsing are fine.

The slimport cable does work better and as the tablet needs to be near the tv anyway for Miracast to be 100% effective you might as well go for the cable. Much cheaper too!!
