    Hi guys,

So I'd like to put together a Linux-based desktop running mainly design software (GIMP/Inkscape/Scribus), and 3D modelling software (Blender). I'm hoping my budget isn't completely unrealistic!

    1. What is your budget?

    €600 or so.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?

Design/Illustration/Animation (2D and some 3D). Its most taxing task will be running Blender (see here for the requirements).

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?

No. I plan on running the Linux distro Elementary OS.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?

    No.

    5. Do you need a monitor?

Yes. 27", if you can recommend one. But you needn't factor this into the budget.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.]

I would love a little Mac-like keyboard and mouse set. The keyboard needs to be small (i.e. no number pad) but not cramped (I tried the Logitech K400 before but found it a little cramped). For wireless, I'll probably just use a usb adaptor, as I had trouble before with a PCI one (cost about €15). A card reader would be nice, but I can do without one. I don't need speakers either.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking?

    Probably not.

    8. How can you pay?

    Paypal/Visa Debit.

    9. When are you purchasing?

    In next few months.

Better off coming back the week you plan on buying. But you should be able to get an i5, SSD and 16 GB of ram for 600

A small SSD ..... 64GB is big enough ....... for the OS root partition, and a large HDD for /home & data storage would be my suggestion.
