Is anyone else having problems accessing BBC red button feeds of the Winter Olympics?

It brings up the menu ok, but when I select the option for the Olympic feeds, it's "loading" for ages & then throws this error...

    BBC RB1 10773 H 22000. BBC RB2 12552 V 22000. Both OK with me on Dr D F15 receiver.

I'm getting the same error on BOTH boxes -- I thought it was because I have the "other channels" on the blue button but it shouldn't really affect BBC because 1+2 are on the same numbers (141, 142) on the UK EPG . . .

    Getting the same also.

Same for me on the Sky Box - had to manually tune in RB2 on 12.552

According to the BBC's red button twitter account, there is an issue for N.I. & ROI customers accessing winter olympic feeds via red button - which they're aware of & are trying to resolve. I've manually tuned it in under other channels, for now.

Thanks for that - having the same problem too it's annoying because the main coverage on bbc2 is full of repeats and though the snowboarding was great they ran it three times today.

Tuned it in just there: 10.773, H, 22.0, 5/6. Labelled as "BBC RB1". There is another channel on that tuning labelled as "6391" which is another Red Button Channel (I think)... was showing Football Focus or something like that a few minutes ago (Sunday, 12.35pm).

Tuned both in. OK on sky+ box. Problem with no sound on RB1 on sky box in other room. 10773 H 2200 5/6

Update: BBC now saying it's not their problem, and anyone outside UK should "contact their service provider".

Also heard a theory that Sky Ireland may be blocking it on purpose, though I can't imagine why.

That's a shame.... Sky's call centres are no the best.

I'll try them tomorrow I suppose.

@SkyHelpIreland on Twitter just told me they checked with their content manager, and the red button will not be available during the Olympics.

This is a load of balls what are sky playing at.
If I manually tune them in will I get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 179 ✭✭sally365

    Yes

    Yes

You can't, however, manually tune in all six streams that you'd have the choice of on the red button.

This red button blockage combined with Eurosport being denied rights, and Eurovision losing the right to put all the European streams up on their website makes Sochi an absolute disaster.

How is this supposed to be progress?

Expect the same for Rio I'm afraid.

    Hello,

My parents are having the same issue and they're very disappointed as they loved the summer Olympic coverage. I don't have Sky myself so not familiar with how it all works.

Will this be a permanent issue i.e. Sky Ireland are not paying for the rights to BBC red button anymore?

Some of you mention retuning. Is this straight forward for a non techie to do? How would one go about it?

It seems terrible that people are not informed of this in advance via letter. My parents just assumed their dish wasn't working. BBC Red Button is one of the main reasons to choose Sky in the first place. The hundreds of other channels are mostly rubbish.

A friend of mine works in Sky and she told me that BBC does not have the rights to show the live redbutton coverage in Ireland.

I'm assuming another channel does in Ireland.

    Very annoying!!

The two BBC red button streams can be added to "other channels" using these frequencies -
    10773 H 22000 5/6
    12552 V 22000 5/6

    BUT
An alternative would be to remove your Sky card from your Sky box while watching Sky's red button, and then when leaving the Sky red button, you would default to Freesatfromsky, meaning the BBC red button could be used (though they would show up on channels 977 and 978 anyway)

It's probably a side-effect of the new distribution deal mentioned above - RTE are showing an hour's highlights on their little-watched news channel which is not available on Sky (is it even on UPC?) and as rights-holders, no matter how tentative, could block BBC's red button if they wished.

I don't know if this has happened here.

noticed this myself, thankfully I also have a freesat box in place so I'll be using the good old humax for Sochi

Online is where it's at. The HD streams on the BBC Sport app for PS4 are wonderful. You'd need to perform some magic though to get it working in Ireland which I can't mention here

Does this work on Xbox 360 too?

I've never even heard of RTE News Now.

Way to bring it to the masses RTE!

No idea. If the BBC Sport app is available in the uk then I see no reason why it wouldn't

Great news! I have it up and running now!

Just to state that the six-screen service through Connected TV does not appear to be available, as the page 998 option comes up with the fault message.

the red button comes up as a separate channel on FTA

is it possible to choose which event you want to watch like with sky?

According to the BBC2 coverage right now, as many as 6 or 7 streams are being shown by them via red button, but all we have is BBC2 coverage, and two others, one of which is showing the exact same sport as BBC2, curling.

I'd hoped to see Seamus O'Connor in the halfpipe semis, then some biathlon, but no joy. Any way of tuning into all the extra streams via the Sky box?

That's through Connected TV - basically if you have a new flatscreen with a LAN connection, plug it into your broadband and you may get 6-7 screens when you go enter the Red Button or go to BBC Text p998. It hasn't worked for me though.

You can watch the halfpipe here http://www.bbc.com/sport/live/winter-olympics/25886926 if you are in the UK or have a UK proxy.
