Open fire or electric fire?

    Hi guys
Currently looking at a property that has an open fire, which is nice, but I probably would not use it much and am concerned about the loss of heat / efficiency of having the open chimney etc. Would this be a big loss of heat?

Therefore I was thinking of getting an electric (inset type - or are there others) fire which would block up the loss of heat and I might use it occasionally. I presume I would need to get the chimney blocked up before this? Or would there not be much of a difference and should I keep the open fire?

    Thanks a mill!
