So things look like they are now kicking off in Bosnia-Herzegovina with rioting and protests being held against the government, unemployment and other issues.

Do you think with the recent protests in the Ukraine and Bosnia are the start of a European Spring and do you think these sort of protests could spread into western Europe like France, UK or even Ireland.

Nah, the protests in Ukraine are a completely different thing.

The biggest irony is that it was almost 100 years ago that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand occurred in Sarajevo, an event that was deemed to have been a key link in the chain of events that lead to the start of WWI.

So far, the demonstration appear not to have split the country along ethnic lines, they're all opposing the government.

    .
Most of the protesters appear to be Serbs, no ethnic divide so far.

If most of the protesters are Serbs then surely that is an ethnic divide?

They're not protesting against the other groups, they just happen to be in a largely Serbian area.

40% unemployment seems to be a big part of their recent protests

Sure but you have to ask yourself in that case why do the dissidents appear to be largely Serbian. Surely the Serbians are discontent with something the Bosnians aren't. In such a divided country as Bosnia where scars run deep I think it's a little early to say this won't be ethnic.

Look hard enough for long enough, and will begin to see what you want to see.

Always the way, I guess the Bosnian war still haunts the region's reputation.

Not a chance we wouldn't know a proper protest over economic and government issues if it whacked us in the face.

Oh yes, the issues that cause unrest in the Balkans are identical to Ireland. The left has been describing this country as a tinderbox for six years. Any day now...

only way it'll happen here is if we put some brave people into government that told the a certain government to stick it, they wouldn't be long proxy supporting a bunch of cnuts to start a faux revolution which would inevitably end in civil war like we're seeing over and over again.

You said it there anyway. Saved me a lot of typing and stuff. You probably said it better too.
