I cancelled my sky sub recently, they have offered me a 20% discount for 9 months. Just wondering if anything better out there ?

Don't take that offer. You will get at least 2 more offers. I had Sky for 1 year on a 50% off offer and dumped them at the end of Oct. Got my 2nd "Come back to Sky" begging letter last week and that was offering 50% off for 9 months.

So don't rush back to them just yet;).

Last week I got half price on any package for 9 months contract free! Hold out until you get what you want. Keep ringing!

    Hi Guys,

We recently cancelled our sub having been a loyal customer for years. I have many friends who are availing of offers in the order of 50% off etc for the past number of years so we said we would follow the same route. Anyway, we were offered in the order of 20% off for 6 months which would reduce our sub from 64 to 53/month roughly. Based on others experience we turned down the offer and last night we were cut off with no follow up offer from Sky. Just thought I would highlight what may be a change in policy from Sky as we had heard all the stories of "you will get at least 3 calls" etc but we only received 1 offer and have now been cut off. Needless to say I felt the offer was poor in comparison to what others have been getting.

Sky mentioned that they will only offer a max 20% as they stopped the 50% because it was discussed in boards.ie !!

Was that on the basis of them contacting you a number of times? I was surprised that they never contacted us and the only offer made was when we originally rang to cancel. I guess its a case of either registering a new account and availing of lower rate if there or else change provider.

I had the identical situation last August. Was offered 20% off but refused and I was cut off early August.

And as you quite rightly pointed out there were no "3 phone calls" as has been mentioned previously. Im not sure where people get these ideas from. Maybe it just happened to them only and they believe that Sky do the same for everyone who cancels.

Anyhow about 4 or 5 days after I was cut off they did phone me and I was offered half price (basic pack with sports) for 12 months with no contract and also €50 applied to my account.

So hang in there and you may well get a call yet. If not just ring and ask why you are being discriminated against.....known to have worked before ;)

I cancelled last june! Get a call once a month offering me more and more. Got one today offering me free movies and half price on any subscription! Still didn't take it mind. I was with them for 5 years never got an upgrade to the box, they wanted to charge me for that. So cancelled put subscription in wifes name got free hd +box and 30% off for the year contract.

I left sky 6 months ago and they're still ringing me offering me deals .
    Hold tight

Thanks for the replies. Its interesting to hear the differing experiences of people. Hang tough seems to be the approach but easier said than done when you have a 2 year old wondering where Fireman Sam is gone! I will be assessing other options in any case as the price increases for less content - sporting at least, is a major put off in terms of Sky at present.

Buy a Fireman Sam DVD for €4. :)

I've 4 young kids, and not one of them missed anything that was on pay TV. We've Saorview, Freesat & Netflix now (plus a few DVDs). That's way more than enough!

+1 for netfilx dont have saorview though, get a WDTV box. Simple to set up and great quality video out of it too.

My Sky sub expires tomorrow. No offers recd. yet but I have a question re stuff in the Planner.
I understand that I won't be able to watch anything from the planner after tomorrow but does it stay in the planner so I could possibly watch it later assuming that I re-instate my Sky sub?
