Flightradar24 Thread and Liveatc EIDW Feed is up AND GOING WELL. Threads to be dropped as in left to die, and a new thread called something along the lines of,

    "FR24 Live/Live ATC Chat"

To be the one thread covering all?

A mega chat thread will be bad for the forum IMO. The people with the technical expertise may not bother with it if the word 'chat' is in the title.

    Maybe I am wrong.

But there are other technical forums on boards where is a core group of users with the expertise (like this forum), but a lot of the info is stickied and people are encouraged to google stuff before they ask.

    That's not a discussion forum.

I love going into the ask an airline pilot thread and asking, "what's ILS" and seeing numerous replies that develop into interesting stuff about Cat II / III, SOPS, autoland and no tea and biscuit meetings.

I hate the fact that we are pandering to 1 post lamenting the decline of the forum because of "kids" talking about a "bit of wind"

    My two cents:
Earlier, I thought a merge into one chat thread might suit people if they were unhappy with the current two threads, but having reread parts of the fr24 and EIDW threads, i think they're serving different purposes so I voted no, leave them as they are.

Look at the weather forum. They have threads for events that attract thousands and once the event is over, it's back to the core users and normal operation.

A&A is smaller scale. Why not have a general chat thread? Call it "The Lounge" or "Old Airport Road Layby" or "Spotting from home" where people listening to ATC or watching FR24 can chat away. When we have wx events, it will be busier. When we have a 787 diverting to Dublin, it will be moderately busy, and when we have nothing it will be the core users discussing anything that's going on.

The LiveATC thread can be used for discussion of the streaming and tech behind it which seems to be the original intention, and the FR24 thread, well, I dunno, could become this new thread?

No matter what the outcome, if someone posts "LOL why is there planes over my house today OMG" and people get annoyed, they can f**k right off. It's a discussion forum. If you don't want to speak to someone you don't deem clever enough or who possesses less knowledge than you, go join mensa or something. It's not a d*ck swinging competition about who knows more.

This forum has had quite a few outbursts at people just asking questions. It's not like we have to sift through 10 pages of irrelevant posts every time we visit, is it? IMO, the forum is nice and tidy and threads are usually merged well where required.

Leave it the way it is. It works grand.

Only thing that needs to be fixed on the A&A forum is the stickies. 9 stickies, annoying the way it takes up most of the page.

    Edit: Suggestion.

Yeah those 9 stickies are annoying..

I think the best way to go about it would be to just create a new thread during stormy conditions so the FR24 and LiveATC threads aren't full of discussion about stormy landings. Like a matchday thread in the sports forums :)

And keep the FR24 and LiveATC threads the way they are for just daily observations.

That would be perfect. Similar to the weather forum also. A thread for each "event".

Dublin Airport Spotters - Rename to Irish Airports Movements/Spoters ( or similar, not everyone is from Dublin ;)).
Aviation & Aircraft Photo Discussion Thread - Move link to First post of main thread and remove sticky.
The great big "ask an airline pilot" thread! - No more "how do i pay for pilot training questions"
Aviation & Aircraft Photo Gallery *No Discussion*
Squawk as you CFIT (Off Topic Thread)
Forum Charter - READ BEFORE POSTING TO THIS FORUM **
    Aviation video Thread

Just my own 2c on this.

I personally think keeping the two threads as there own is better as to merge the two together will get extremely cluttered both with screen shots and discussion.
People will then miss certain things they may have wanted.

Ok enough time given for the regular users of this forum to give opinion and its a clear cut result.

    Business as usual, all sorted.

If anyone wants to start a thread for events only, that could possibly work, but I personally think there is enough room in the two threads for all situations and it could get worse if three or more threads had to be watched during any future event.

I think it's best to leave them as they are and that's purely from my (selfish?) perspective. I listen to the Live ATC feed a lot more than I watch FR24. If I'm in a 3G area I stream the fed from my phone to the car stereo via bluetooth. As a result I kind have an FR24 image in my head as I'm familiar with the location of most waypoints, SIDs and STARs. If I'm at home I'll have the FR24 app in the background because it's handy.

So I'm more of a LiveATC listener than an FR24 watcher. Based on that alone I'd sooner see the threads independent of each other as if I've a comment to make on the LiveATC feed it will save me having to scroll through the FR24 pics plus I'll only see comments specific to the feed.
