Need a new tractor 130hp - 150hp - need advise please

    Folks,

I need a new tractor for land drainage work. I need a heavy machine (~7tonne) to help with the overall stability of the tractor and machine when operating.

    My requirements:
    - New or very low hours
    - 4 wheel drive
    - 40k box min
    - 130 - 150 hp
    - 6.5 tonne minimum, the more the better
    - Green in colour would be a nice bonus.
    - <50k euro if possible

I was originally thinking of 2003-2010 era John Deere but hear they have plenty of problems. Then I considered a new Kubota 130X but it was too light, although it did have a two year warranty which was good.

I'm toying with the idea of a new John Deere 6RC and 6MC Series, but they only give a 12 months warranty which is shocking considering the machine is 61k euro plus VAT.

Can anyone help with some guidance here please?

2012 massey 6480. they were a big tractor for the hp too but couldn't say what weight they are.

Valtra T series would have plenty of weight and stability behind you. Good few about, and you could even get one with a proper shade of green!! Know plenty with north of 9k hours and still going.

You have a fair choice for that budget though, maybe try and arrange a few demo machines?

NH TM155 or T6150, T7 range might be too big but still a fair size of yoke.

MF 6480 are a very good machine. Dyna6 here and very pleased. You can turn them on a sixpence and they are light. Reliability is very good never ever had a spot of bother

Bad points; not many really. The build quality of the cab isn't great, could be better. Gearbox is a small bit annoying but once you get used to it it's fine.
I'm selling mine through no fault of its own, it just doesn't fit in with the kit and has 4k hours on it so tyres are due.
I would put them well ahead of Tm's, and I've had plenty.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I see nobody is mentioning John Deere (aka Dear).

Are people moving away from them? The feedback here is great, I'm gaining an insight.

Had plenty Deere's in my time, the 10 series were damn good but they have too many problems since. Problems like head gaskets.
Having said that I have a 30 series that seems fine.

    Folks,

What do you think of this?
    • 2005 Valtra T130HiTech
    • 135 HP
    • front suspension
    • Air seat,air con
    • 7,800 hrs
    • 4 new tyres
    • 30,000 euro

Would it be a good buy? Are those hours a little too high? Can you expect many problems from this 130 HiTech model?

    thanks again

Too much money too many hours.
If you are going to have to drive it yourself I wouldn't buy Valtra. Rough as guts.

hey sheebadog, what do you mean 'rough as guts'? Is the gearbox loud?

I heard that those valtras are good for 10k hrs+ without issues, buy maybe you're right. I guess the resale value would be crap.

What would you suggest as an alternative?

I've nothing against Valtra, in fact I think they are very good brand.
Valtra tend to be at the lower side on comfort but on the higher side of reliability.
MF are also a good all rounder and good resale value.

    Guys,

I just went an viewed a Valtra T130 and I must say I'm very impressed. It's a 2005 model as above only with 9,500 hours (I know, alot....)

But it's very fresh, new tyres, starts great, looks very clean with no abuse. I'm very seriously considering buying, unless someone can give me a reason not to? Any final opinions on the T130 or Valtra tractors generally?

One reason not to buy----> 9500 hours!!

Both those 05 valtra coming in at 860hrs per yr and 1050hrs per yr and ye say that these are high. What would be a reasonable hour clock up per year on a second hand tractor?

    That's roughly 3 hours a dayish

that is a lot of hours alright. I think it would be alright if it wasn't going to be the main tractor but if you want something to clock up a lot of hours then I would pass.

over rated, uncomfortable and controls are outdated in them. their tied in the agco group that where the relation with massey is coming from!

I robbed this quote from another thread and I appreciate this is from an old thread, buy in what way are the valtra tractors uncomfortable?

Also, how are they on fuel? I've heard the can be very heavy?

would not be one bit worried about those hours on a t series if it was anyway minded. front suspension on them is good, use airbags like the trucks.i always rated them good. might be a bit lighter than you said you were looking for.if you are looking at it have a good look around the front axle where it rocks side to side.some of them that carried a lot of weights a lot were prone to wear. not too expensive if caught in time but if it gets bad it can run into a big job as bearings in axle get pulled out of line. also some of them that carried big loads on the hitch were prone to breaking some of the bolts that secure the hitch to back axle. same as front axle, not a big job if caught in time.

Valtras are very popular around me with all the contractors and reports say they are very reliable. Baler man beside me has an older 8450 with over 13000 hrs. The last of the massey 6480 with the Perkins engine are an absolute animal of a tractor with a great turning circle, comfy cab and lovely dyna 6 gearbox

    I wouldn't count it high

there seems to be a obsession that tractors with 10 k hours (or jeeps with 100k mls) will blow up

if this was the case I'd have been walking most of my life :o

    Folks,

Following all the feedback I've reconsidered my options. I'm now looking at a
2004 Valtra T130 with 4 new tyres, Air Con, Load Sensing Hydraulics, Armrest Joystick, Electric Spools
    Price €34,000

Is this a much better deal? The hours are significantly less

Also, would this be hitech 1 or 2? I heard hitech 2 was far superior

If this isn't the one your looking at, it may offer a good comparison. Around 39K but they wouldn't be known for being cheap :p

You could always buy one with 3500 hrs , that's what i see most of them advertised at.
Must be a handy number to get them to.

Any of these should be HiTech 2 as far as I know.
