I am a foreign non EU student living and working in Ireland. Very stressed as I got refused my last visa extension in December on the grounds that my course was going on longer than my 7 year allowance as a student. However, I already received the visa a year ago for this 2 year course and I'm doing really well in my exams so it seems unfair that the visa officers refused me to finish my masters. I was advised to email the student review group at justice.ie but I am still waiting for a reply and my visa expired 2 months ago...
Please help me? I'm worried as if I need to go back home for any emergency reason, I won't be able to re-enter and complete my masters!! I will be 7 years in ireland by september 2014 but the masters ends in decemeber 2014 along with the thesis! Classes however will end by September but they won't listen to me. I asked in the email can I at least get the visa to complete my course until September.. I'm very upset and frustrated as I've put alot of hard work in already and done very well in my exams in January :(
Is there any point in me going back to the visa office and asking them again? I've waited 2 months already...

    hi,
In case other people have similar problem.
I was a bachelor student for 3 years, did masters for 1 year, i entered graduate program and while I was on it I was working in research, I got a grant and entered PhD in january 2014 when i was still on graduate program. I wen to register to GNIB in september, they told me they cant register me because my program duration is 4 years and also after entering graduate program I could not return to studies. They advised to send an email to student review group and explain the situation and if they decide to grand me a permission then I could stay and get registered.
I read the posts online saying that it takes forever to get a reply, so I went to the lawyer. The meeting was very useful. I paid 140 euro for the consultation and completed letter to student review group. However I ended up not using lawyer service to send a letter on my behalf, I did everything myself at the end. I still think it was very useful consultation. ( I would advise you to use lawyer service if your registration expires soon, because the letter sent by lawyer is legal document, not like email, just to make sure you stay in country legally and can come back if you would have to leave)
When I was registering at Garda later (after I got a permission from student review group) I mention to the officer that i went to lawyer, he told me it was not really worth, as my case was very clear. He told me that they implemented this rule as many people were "going to college" for many year, but in reality were working illegally, thus they are very flexible with this 7 years, you just need to prove that you are doing the right thing.
bets of luck to all those who have this issue. it is stressful, but you can manage.

Just to let you know that you are unlikely to get a reply from either of the posters before you as neither of them have been active on Boards since their posts.

Hi guys. I have an update on my situation. So I went up to Cork NASC. They said there Is no contact number or any other way to contact them. You can only email and wait for it. It might take upto 7 months. They lady at the office in NASC suggested me that I should keep emailing them after every 3 to 4 week asking if there is any update on it.
If any of you guys have same problem or had experienced it before please let me know. I am also booked in for brophys solicitors in dublin. Will update this if they provide any information. Thanks
