The failure to receive RTÉ1 HD on Mux2 has more to do with the quality of signal arriving at the tuner than whether the aerial is black tipped or white tipped.

The new white tip (Group T) wideband aerial (UHF Chs. 21-60) was introduced to reduce potential interference from 4G mobile broadband. The top end of the TV band (UHF Chs. 61-69) was sold off in late 2012 to the mobile networks for 4g. The black tip (Group WB) wideband aerial (UHF Chs. 21-69) included reception of the new 4g band and so is no longer recommended for installation especially if you receive the Saorview muxes from UHF Ch.52 upwards.

What is your local transmitter and which frequencies do the Saorview muxes come in on (http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/)? Is your aerial the correct group for your local transmitter?

What type of aerial do you use now - set-top, attic or outdoor?

List of Saorview transmitters and frequencies here - http://www.2rn.ie/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/2RN-DTT-Television-Transmission-Network-Nov-2013.pdf

Thanks CUSH. since MUX2 my tv has trouble deciding having moved the aerial around to get best signal it sometimes gives me truskmore 57 which is very week or not at all most of the time when retuned i get 53 but that leaves out RTE HD and RTEjr
So my aerial is not good enough for MUX2 57 is that it and does this mean many people are having to buy another aerial to receive RTEHD and RTEjr.
My aerial is in the attic yagi UHF black tip never had a broblem untill MUX2 came on

Not at all. Your aerial is suitable for ch 57. 4G interference has turned out to be highly unlikely, is it even operational in your area?

Which transmitter does the Saorview coverage checker recommend for your location?

Your aerial is good enough for Truskmore as winston says above. The problem appears to be that your aerial is in the attic and not getting a good enough signal from both frequencies. Lots of problems like this posted here since the second mux came online.

If Truskmore is your recommended transmitter and the signal is problematic the suggestion would be to move the aerial outside and if you were doing this the white tip Group T would be recommended to reduce any future potential interference from 4g services.

Truskmore is the recommended one. No 4G in my area Very unlikely to have interference for many years yet !
I guess i will move the aerial some more around the attic before thinking about it going outside to much hazzle or to lazy ! Cheers lads for you help

If you do get an acceptable signal for both frequencies in the attic you may be able to give it a small boost to the TV with an amp located close to the aerial. But if the quality of signal arriving at the aerial isn't good then no amount of amplification will improve it.
